Cusack's awesome.

Craig Robinson's awesomer.

Robinson is the only redeeming element of that trailer for me.

As somebody who grew up in the 80s, and as somebody who likes Cusack, Corddry, and Chase ... I'll probably give it a shot as long as the reviews aren't too bad. I do wonder how far they're going to take the, "What a stupid movie we're making!" concept, hinted at when Robinson says, "It's like ... some kind of hot tub time machine ..." and then glances at the camera like, "Really??"

But ... but ... but ... wasn't the screenplay voted TEH BEST UNPRODUCED SCREENPLAY at one point? You people are crazy. This is obviously going to win a Pscar.

I saw some of it last week. It's exactly what you expect. Cusack getting puked on was kinda funny.

Jeff Wells talks it up like it's the most perverse, awesome thing ever. Which means it isn't, but I'm still very excited.

Well damnit, the trailer made me laugh, and I think it looks funny. Plus, I'll be watching it for free, so yeah I'm gonna go see it.

Ebert said it's a notch or two below The Hangover, a movie i still need to watch.

It's better than The Hangover, even though it seems like HTTM was written with the script for The Hangover as a base. But it is very funny, while TH was...less so.

Hot Tub Time Machine - 7.5
The Hangover - 5.5

I ended up enjoying this despite the fact that often the combination of a) extreme visual drabness and b) extreme cheap humor often sent a sinking "oh my god did I actually pay to see this?" feeling in my stomach. But anyway, the strong third act really won me over.

Do you like Clarke Duke? Does Cusack getting barfed on make you chuckle?

You'll like this movie. Just remember to roll up a coner or two beforehand.

Well I saw it... it's kinda decent in its ability to be mediocre. I did enjoy seeing Rob Corddry and Cusack though... they definitely saved it from being a waste. I would like to know though... who came up with the cliche "some character sings an 80s song" thing - whyyyyyyy?

If anything, this reminds me of a lesser Harold and Kumar adventure.

I laughed, but I have little interest in watching it again. It's filmed with little imagination, and its occasional attempts at style tend to land with a thud, especially when the hot tub first sends them backward. The women in the film are painted with almost no imagination, Lizzy Caplan's character being an especially late (and hackneyed) arrival to the Manic Pixie Girl trend. Also (and this may seem an odd criticism), the characters imbibe almost every drug imaginable, but there are no consequences whatsoever. There's even a scene where Cusack takes bong hits while munching on mushrooms like chips, and he's absolutely fine minutes later. I'm not asking for some sort of moral judgment - just a headache, or a hallucination, or something. Still, I said I laughed, and I did, and most of that came from Craig Robinson, who gets a wonderful late-act meltdown, complete with a surprise reaction shot that brought me and my audience to tears. After seeing him offer equally great moments in Zack and Miri and The Office, I'm wondering how long until he headlines his own feature.

White Castle > Hot Tub Time Machine > Escape From Guantanamo Bay, but yes, it does fit that mold of comedy.

This was a lot of fun. I'm not sure it would have any replay value, but tonight it hit all the right chords with me. Corddry was fantastic.

Ebert took a few hits for giving this 3 stars in his Movie Answer Man mailbag. And I sensed that he was backpeddling a bit from his answers. I wish he'd held his ground. I think 3 stars is about right. I enjoyed it.

This was hilarious. Crispin Glover was probably the best recurring joke I've seen in a film in quite awhile.

This was hilarious. Crispin Glover was probably the best recurring joke I've seen in a film in quite awhile."Your gonna lose that arm..." "No, your gonna lose your arm." Him, Robinson, and Corddry were the best things about this movie. It wasn't as funny or as entertaining as The Hangover, but I still liked it regardless.

I think I like it more than The Hangover, despite all the plot holes and questions regarding the film's logic.

My type of comedy. Not that many punch lines, but sort of a bemused deadpan verbosity and a scuzzy purity in its lack of shape and logic.

Lines like "Chernobly, that's all you can ever talk about!" / "That's the first time he's mentioned it" aren't jokes, per se, but the vibe of the film and the performers sell the hell out of it. I liked it. No classic, but a fun, energetic production.

So much better than the dull, formulaic The Hangover, it's not funny (ha!)

I'd have to see The Hangover again, but I just feel that its slightly better than Hot Tub Time Machine. Both are quite funny, and among the most enjoyable comedies I've seen from the 2000s.

This movie is just so damn rewatchable. I think I've seen it four or five times now in different settings with different people and and it's still not to the point where I'd be against throwing it on as an enjoyable time-passer right about now.

It's almost more likeable than it is really funny, as it's been said, it's not even the big jokes that are the most hilarious parts for me either. It has such a fun, laid-back vibe and enthusiasm to it that I think it really works well for it because as much of a cartoon as it can find itself being, it's really quite sincere with how it treats its characters.

Also, maybe it's just an age thing with me and my friends, but an alarming amount of our parents seem to love it too. Seeing as they would have been not too far in age from the characters in the 80s of the movie, I guess it's not surprising, but it's just amusing because I can't think of any movies like this that they would bother with otherwise.

I just can't believe people here are complaining about plot holes and lack of logic in a film called Hot Tub Time Machine. Part of the charm of the film is that it doesn't bog itself down with rules and explanations. Shit just happens.

If it were actually funny, it'd be much easier to overlook its weaknesses. I didn't find The Hangover to be all that funny either, so I can understand your preferring this one.

Took me a while, but I finally watched this, streaming on Netflix. I laughed quite a few times. Funny reading Scar's post above, I found this much more funny than the Hangover. Rob Corddry needs to star in more movies.

Adam Scott's taking over for Cusack, but apparently not as the same character, sadly forbidding a Party Down reunion of sorts with Scott as the first movie's lead being married to Lizzy Caplan.

Just found out that they apparently go into the future in the sequel, and Adam Scott is Cusack's son.
