I'm more interested in how this effects the MacGyver movie (whether it kills it or boosts its popularity) than I am in the actual movie.

I don't see this being good at all.

Holy shit! What the fuck is this?? There's like a million wires up here! I'm more of a three wire guy.

It'll probably be mediocre, but I can't resist Kristen Wiig.

I know that Jorma directs all the MacGruber sketches on SNL, but interesting to see him doing this instead of Kiv.

It's also pretty cool that Chris Jericho and Mark Henry are in this.

Finally saw a sketch of this on Youtube. Absolutely hysterical! Can't wait for the movie.

The trailer doesn't look good, but Hot Rod didn't look good in trailer form, and that was a hoot.

Gah, it's killing me. I want to watch this, but I'm at work and don't want to chance it. Any nudity at all in the trailer?

No nudity (well, Forte is nude but not showing anything in a quick clip), just lots of cursing.

Yeah, Hot Rod rules.

Plus I get the chance to see Val Kilmer in a showdown with WWF's Kane, so I'm totally in.

Disappointing trailer. The "a million wires!" line made me laugh, but that was it. That said, the sketches I've seen are pretty funny. So, who knows? How bad can it be? Night at the Roxbury bad? :D

This was pretty funny, but got off to a slow start. Heavy laughs in some scenes, but then just a couple chuckles in others.

I'm rounding up for now, thinking a repeat viewing later this year might level out some of the imbalance.

Hell yeah I'm seeing this. Ever since I viewed the funny trailers for it, I've anticipated it as being hilarious. I'll be going to watch it on Tuesday, despite the fact that most of my friends and others think this looks terrible. I disagree.

Saw it, enjoyed it. It's wildly uneven, with some jokes that never quite pay off (the license plate) and others that never even set up well (the celery). On the other hand, there's a scene with a despondent Will Forte in an office that nearly brought me to tears, and Taccone has a lot of fun aping the broader aesthetic cliches of the genre. Stray examples. A scene with Vicki St. Elmo backed by huge and indistinct soft lighting. The opening with chanting choir. An erotic lovemaking session that becomes too realistic. I suspect I liked Hot Rod more, but if this loose group of people keep making movies, I'll keep coming.

I liked it. Consistently funny, if not uproariously so. I found something to like in just about every scene and I appreciated that Forte was allowed some pretty bizarre indulgences. Good supporting performance from Kilmer. Thumbs up.

Ridiculous fun. Not sure it will have all that much replay value, but it did the trick tonight. Much cruder than I expected it to be, that's for sure.

Yes! More people need to see this. It's settled well in my mind. If anything, I think I've under-rated it.

Not to build up expectations too far. Probably still best to go into the film not expecting too much.

Wow. This has been a box office disaster. I didn't think it would make a lot, but I never thought it would do this poorly.

Match Cut, even though you wouldn't have made much of a difference, I'm disappointed in all of you for not doing your part.

Then you are not included in my scolding. Seriously though, this thing is poised to make less than The Ladies Man and Night at the Roxbury. That's just depressing.

I don't watch SNL - and haven't for years - so this really didn't appeal to me. Based on your comments, though, I may catch it on video.

This is above average SNL filmmaking, though it never sustains the intermittent humor that the sex scenes and most of Wiig's reaction shots/comments possess. If anything, Kilmer is wasted in a role that should allow for much more scenery chewing. I thought MacGruber's reaction to the excesses of maschismo (gay culture) was a clever enough commentary on the unforced homosexual undercurrent lying beneath many of the 80s action comedies, and some of the MacGruber lines, such as the one that DaMU mentions above, are witty enough. That said, it's not really solid filmmaking and too many of the comedic conceits end limply.

I'd like to see an SNL Digital Short film, as I'd have a teensy bit more faith that the execution would deliver. Clearly it's time to seek out Hot Rod.

Why did it take me so long to watch this? Just laughing around ever scene.

Also, there's a line towards the end that Val Kilmer says:

"Vicki, Vicki Vicki, always the Bridesmaid never the bride"

Interesting that Match Cut was pretty into this from the get go.

I too avoided it initially as 'unessential viewing' but was pleasantly surprised at how wacked out it was.

Fun Fact: apparently the obsessive licence plate thing is based on something in an early Steven Seagal movie where early on someone abandons a dog at his house and even after defeating (presumably) dozens of baddies and going through 90 minutes worth of plot, Seagal's character is still so obsessed with the guy who abandoned the dog he tracks him down at the end of the movie and kicks him in the nuts.

This was non-stop laughs for me, and one of the most quotable SNL comedies. I never understood the hate.

MacGruber: I will suck your dick, I will suck your fucking dick, just join my team. I'll suck your dick, you can fuck me, you can get fucked by me. You can watch me fuck something? Just point at something in the room and I'll fuck it for you! Just tell me what you want me to fuck!

I'm glad I saw this in theaters when it came out. My friend and I were howling during most of the film. I loved the ending, too. Unfortunately I don't think there is going to be a sequel.
