I'm not sure if there is a better place to put this thread, but I think it is being needed as a reference for those with issues to raise.

I can only think of a couple issues/questions for now, about the new site here:

1) Rep? Yes or no?
2) Is there any other way to more easily have the forums we've read marked as such? Or do we have to double-click on the bulletin icon on the left side every time? The stars on the last page were a super-convenience for me.

I say yes to rep. We have a solid enough group that everyone will understand it's just for fun and a cool way to drop a little thumbs up someone's way.

I'm with you on the "read" threads. It's a bit tiresome to have to click on the exact forum title in order for the thread to display as read. I used those icons a lot as well.

I'm in favor of rep.

I tried to link a banner in my sig and couldn't do it. If we're not supposed to have banners then I understand, but if that's not the case then its a simple example of how techinically challenged I am at times :D

I hate the idea of rep points because it always leads to people whoring for them. The only thing I liked about the "rep" icon was that you could comment on a post without interrupting the flow of a discussion.

I agree about the commenting on a post thing, but like I said, I think we're a tight enough community that whoring for rep won't be a problem.

Not to sound bitchy, whinny or something but half of the smilies aren't very good. The "embaressed" one doesn't even look embarressing. But I like the "eek!" and "cool" smilies.

And what's wrong with a little whoring everyone once and a while? ;)

Not sure if Raiders can change this on this board, but it'd be sweet if 20 or 30 posts filled a page rather than only 10. Conversations feel a teensy bit confined in the present format...

Just want to make it easier to find out if threads have been posted on.

Rep would be great, especially to just acknowledge if someone wrote a review. It means nothing, but it's just a way to get someone to notice that they were read.

I'm not sure I understand. What are you asking for?

There's that bulletin on the left side of the main page that is orange-ish with two pieces of paper tacked to it that indicates new posts within that specific forum. If I go into that forum, read the new posts in the individual threads, then click on the banner to send me back to the main page, it doesn't mark that specific forum as read. I have to re-enter the forum, then click on the banner from the forum page to mark it as read.

In other words, you can't click on the banner from a thread page to go back to the main page and still have it marked as read.

It's not a huge problem. Just something that may take getting used to. Change frightens me.

I have not inherited six generations' worth of sexual repression just to "go with it." The world must conform to my kinks. And I only get off on the cold, hard blues of a non-hot thread. Though I won't admit that publicly and will feel guilty about it later*.

Once you reach 50 posts, you get a rep power of one. You can click on the scale next to each user's information on each post to either assign positive or negative rep points to that user, equal to your rep power (indicated by your approval or disapproval). Your rep power increases based on... posts, right, guys?

For example, were this system in place on the old site, you would have gotten some rep from me for saying Takahata is greater than Miyazaki.

You can view the rep you've received on your user control panel. (You started at 5; looks like someone gave you some for something.)

Your rep power goes up based on posts, the number of rep points you receive from others and how long you have been here.

It is: 1 point for every 400 posts, 1 point for ever 200 rep points and 1 point every 365 days.

As people's rep points get higher, I may space those out more.

The problem is the change in minimum rep points when joining isn't retroactive, so all those who joined after I reduced it to 5 get five while everyone else has ten (I was toying with it, figuring everyone would revert to the end result, not get it as they join).

And, if you'll look at KF's rep power, he only has one.

I would also make sure that all of the vents are cleared of dust. I've also found that keeping a tower in a completely-enclosed cabinet (like with some computer desks) doesn't provide sufficient ventilation.

Weird, the problems seems to have disappeared - I was about to reboot, as per chrisnu's advice, but yeah, the problem's gone.

I have registered the domain match-cut.net. I am in the process of trying to decide how best to expand the site. My main thought was a imdb-lite type place used sort of essentially for rating and reviews of all movies exclusive for match-cut users. So, instead of people needing to always ask who has seen what and what people's thoughts are, it is stored all in once place (also easier to locate your old reviews). The other thought was essentially a blog, like the RT diaries of sorts.

Any other ideas?

The whole ratings/reviews thing sounds cool, but I bet the blog idea would perhaps be easier to implement. On the whole, both ideas rock.

Raiders, you rock.

I LOVE the idea of the database idea. Sounds pretty complicated, though. Got ideas on how to implement/design/program it?

The blogs, on the other hand, isn't something I'd be likely to really use myself. The way I see it, I'd rather people post their reviews, essays, lists everything here. A lot of us already have blogs and I'm not sure I'd be any more likely to look at them if they were hosted here.

Perhaps a listing of the Directors' Consensus' and Yearly Top Lists, etc.

Hmmmm... I like this idea. Though as you know, getting the old consensus data from the idiot who has it will be near impossible.

I'm not sure what the site's philosophy is about maintaining a particular demographic, but are we not worried about kids visiting this site?

I only ask because, while I myself love the word, there are two thread titles in the Upcoming section with the F-word in them.

Kids wouldn't make it here in matchcut. Look at eternity.

Sorry guys, I didn't take little ones into consideration with the Conan thread title change. Won't happen again.

I changed it not really due to children, but more because I don't want a bolded curse word when I look at the thread at work.

Just under way, so I just added the current banner. I'll get a lot more personalized, but this is the template I'm going with for the time being.

I was just wondering what the status on this project was. I'm stoked for it. If you need any assistance in any way, I'd be happy to help.

I remember doing something like this for horror films before he vanished.

That was going to be cool, this should be as well.

Well, this won't be like the Axis site. At least not right now. For now, this will be a place for all the Director Consensus lists and the yearly lists and anything else we want to archive.

I would like to get to that point of having a whole film/rating/review site specifically for Match Cutters, but for now, it's not something I really have time to create.

So, like... will there be some kind of form to submit changes to the site? As in, I hadn't seen movie X and now I have, king of thing? Or, God forbid, I change my rating?

I would say keep using the thread here. E will publish the changes after he compiles them at year-end, and I'll edit the database site.

I thought Raiders said that the account had to be approved by Raiders. So I would think someone could register but wouldn't be able to sign in until Raiders gave the go-ahead. PM Raiders and ask him how it works. He'll be able to help you.

Lately I've discovered that after clicking on the box for "Who's Posted?" for the threads I've posted a lot in, I have been unable to use the link in my number of posts to check out the last post I made in those threads. Maybe its a glitch or something's up with the search engine. Odd.

I have no trouble. What specifically comes up when you click?

I don't know if you remember any specific threads where this happened, but try it again if so. I fixed a few index tables which may have solved the error.

Just a slight complaint: for whatever reason, whenever I navigate away from this site, I am required to log back in upon my return. Even when I set my firefox setting to "remember this password" or some such, I'm still required to do this.

It's not a huge problem, just a minor annoyance. I'm wondering if anyone else experiences this as well.

Do you have cookies turned off? I have not been having this issue and it would seem a browser/settings issue on your end as opposed to the website.

Re: Match-Cut.Net

Raiders,

Was thinking about the MCDN project and where it might end up going. I know your initial idea was a database that archives our consensuses and List-Fus and whatnot, but that sounds like it could be quite cumbersome to maintain. What about a wiki? I've seen some video game forums do this where their members collect common and dissenting opinions on games so there's an easy reference to the peculiar tastes of individual members and segments of the community.

Wikis are actually surprisingly easy to set up and maintain, and viewing or editing access can be restricted if it becomes necessary, while not requiring one or two people to assume the whole burden.

Just a thought. Always willing to help out where I can/should.

Love,

Sycophant
