There are several RiffTrax editions coming out this week. I only included the two most popular. This way I have room for Blu-Ray classics like Kickboxer.

There is something not right with calling your collection "Essential Arthouse".

Family Guy and Transformers, for sure.

I was referring to the name, not the movie selections.

I was referring to the name, not the movie selections. But why is that a strange name?

But why is that a strange name?

It's not. I just don't like it. "Essential Arthouse"? It's like calling a box set "Worthy Foreign." I don't like the idea of lumping movies together because they can be considered "arthouse" to begin with.

Why is it that different than having an "Essential Sci Fi" or "Essential Action" box set? Arthouse films in general do have certain qualities that set them apart from genre films, so in essence they are sort of a genre in and of themselves, although one much harder to really pin down. And the "Essential Arthouse" is an extensive collection (like a mini-Criterion), not actually a box set.

It's not. Those are stupid too.

Janus can call their collection whatever they want. They've done more for cinema than many may ever understand.

That's a pretty ill The Seventh Seal cover. Not a big fan of the movie though.

And while I won't be buying Ghostbusters, I'll probably buy Ghostbusters: The Videogame.

That's a light week for actual new release films. Nothing I'm interested in.

I own the Criterion DVD of Seventh Seal. Not sure if the Bluray quality is better. I'd check it out, though.

Due to watch The Seventh Seal again. Been so long.

I watched it again a few years ago. It's still great.

Anyways, I'll probably Redbox the new Friday the 13th for shits and giggles since I don't want to spend more than a buck on that. I also might check out Bergman Island.

Exactly. Which is why they should've went with "AWESOME POOPJUICE FLICKS."

Absolutely nothing for me this week.

I already own The Seventh Seal on DVD. As much as I love it, I don't feel the need to re-buy it, let alone on BluRay.

Strange, but this Friday the 13th will be the first of the series that I see.

And I'll probably rent Bergman Island as well

I've read some reviews that indicate Dr. Strangelove's debut on Blu-ray was botched. It is presented in 1.66:1, chopping off the top and bottom of the frame. No biggie to me really. I'm still more than happy with my copy from Kubrick DVD boxset version 2. I've only upgraded two Kubricks since then. I got the uncut widescreen version of Eyes Wide Shut on DVD and the latest Blu-ray of Full Metal Jacket.

If I had blu-ray, I'd buy The Seventh Seal.

Wait, wasn't Eyes Wide Shut shot in the academy ratio?

I suppose I really didn't mean "uncut." Unaltered -- during the orgy scene -- by digitally added figures is what I meant.

Is 1.66:1 standard in Europe while 1.85:1 is standard in the U.S.? I don't know, but there must be some reason he would compose his films for both ratios and distribute them that way. He would also compose for standard televisions, thus the 1.37:1 ratio that he preferred on DVD.
