I have the oppurtunity to pick up a 16mm Bolex on the ridiculously cheap, and I'd like to see how it would look like before I begin to play with it. So if you know some sort of directory where I can find great films in 16, or maybe just post some of your fave movies (or whatever), that would be teh sex.

I believe IMDB breaks films down by how they're shot. Check their advanced search option.

This interests me as well, for I'll be making a 16mm film in Film Production 2 next spring semester. I'm stoked for that.

EDIT: Wow looking at the list and it surprises me as to how many TV shows are shot in 16mm - Chuck, Scrubs, AND Stargate SG-1?

I doubt if something you'd shoot with a Bolex would look anywhere near as good as an episode of Scrubs. I could be wrong though.

I have a related question though. I'm big into the films of Santiago Alvarez, a Cuban documentarian who made most of his stuff during the '60s and '70s. I read that he was given a "hand-wound" camera and then sent to Vietnam to film what he saw. What he saw was amazing stuff captured in pretty crude and grainy looking footage. What sort of camera was this most likely referring to?

The latest film in my sig(Irreversible) was shot in 16mm.

And because I know very little of the subject, that's all I can contribute. Thanks for having me.

Yes, I'm sure there are lots of movies and shows shot on 16. What I'm looking for is a categorization/directory which shows me (great) films or excellent uses of the technology. There has to be something like this around. I'd research myself, but my boss has been eyeing me up lately (in the 'do work' kind of way, not in the 'you are a sex machine' sort of way), and I don't want to spend more time on the intarwebs than I should to find this shit out.

Here's a list (http://www.frenchlib.org/media/16mm.cfm) of rather renowned French films that were shot in 16mm.

Thanks, homeslice. If I had any rep to give, I'd maybe consider giving you some.

Heh. No problem. It only took an hour of thorough searching to find. No big deal. I did, however, neglect my infant son to do so. He's now on his way to the hospital. That rep you can't give? Well, it would dull the pain a bit.
