Too soon?

If it is, just wait a bit until you make your suggestion.

Anyhow, Summer is right around the corner (at least for my part of the world), so let's celebrate the sun with some Summer jams!

Pick a tune that reminds you of the season.

Like B's last mix, I'll make a continuous mix out of this one, or at least up to a point that it makes sense musically.

You'll see.

Anyhow, like usual I'll be looking for about 20 tunes.

Cool, er, I mean hot!

Track listing:

1. Sly And the Family Stone — Hot Fun In the Summertime (monolith94)
2. Toots and the Maytals - Time Tough (K-fan)
3. Guillemots - Made Up Lovesong #43 (Bacon)
4. The Go-Team - Huddle Formation (acapelli)
5. Violent Femmes - Kiss Off (Evilshoe)
6. Recognized Thresholds of Negative Stress - The Boogie Monsters (Davis)
7. ??? (Davis)
8. Stan Getz & Astrud Gilberto - Corcovado (Russ)
9. Led Zeppelin - When the Levee Breaks (Raiders)
10. Len - "Steal My Sunshine" (Spinal)
11. Pigeon John -- I Lost My Job Again (Thirdmango)
12. Pharcyde - Runnin' (Ezee E)
13. Chemlab - "Vera Blue (96/69)" (dreamdead)
14. Alceu Valença - "Você Pensa" (Boner M)
15. The Sea and Cake - Afternoon Speaker (Winston)
16. Dr. Dog - Heart It Races (Kurious Jorge)
17. Phoenix - If I Ever Feel Better (Saya)
18. Nat "King" Cole - "Those Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer" (Syco)
19. Tricky - Aftermath (chrisnu)
20. Fennesz - "Caecilia" (Derek)

Zep > LFO

However...

LFO = awesome

Also...

Summer Girls >summersongthan> When the Levee Breaks

How is that a summer song? One of my favorites, for sure. In fact, it's pretty much THE song that inspired my musical tastes. But summer?

Sven

To clarify, my feelings about LFO, while not exactly tongue in cheek, should be tempered with my acknowledgment of their complete uselessness.

It reminds me of summer. The bluesy, laid-back feel in the middle of all the swirling harmonica and punding drums reminds me of summer. Also, maybe because of Katrina? I don't know. I didn't say it made sense.

One thing I love about bac0n's booty-shake mix and (hopefull) Daniel's continuous mix is their ability to mix the volume levels correctly. That's one of the drawbacks of previous Match Cut compilations, pulling tracks off the internets, where the volume of some tracks is much lower (or higher) than you'd like, and it makes for a less-than-optimal aural experience.

Yay for the dudes with the hardware!$!$!

D_Davis
05-15-2009, 09:49 PM
Yeah, volume leveling (normalizing) from track to track should be no problem.

I associate the entirety of CAKE's Comfort Eagle with the Summer of 2004. But that's probably just me, because it otherwise isn't terribly Summery? I probably won't have one for this, 'cause I can't think of any songs I associate with Summer.

Except The Decemberists's "Summersong", lol amirite.

EDIT: Point of clarification: That's not something I want on the mixtape.

Wow, there's a name I haven't heard in awhile. I saw these guys back in, uh, the late 90s. The lead singer was skin & bones - apparently he liked him up some of that smack. I'd be surprised if he was still alive.

He is, in fact, still alive. Still skin and bones, but from the youtube clips I found online, he still sounds good. Who'da thought, since I rather expected him to be dead by now, too.:)

D'oh! The Cat Empire is my go-to summer music but I used them last mix. And while I have the most perfect summertime night driving music, I don't think it will work for what else is being suggested here.

Virtual DJ allows you to split the mix automatically into separate tracks automatically upon fader crossing the threshold from left to right.

That sounds cool. I need to try that program out.

I was probably going to use CD Architect.

I plan on using Cool Edit Pro to create mix, and then use CDA to finalize the disc and make the tracks.

We'll see though. Life just got very busy, so this mix won't be done until next week.

these matchcut continuous mixes make me want to attempt one of my own. i fancied myself a dj a couple years ago, although that time only yielded one complete mix (which wasn't too bad)

any of you guys used traktor before for your mixing purposes? it's what i've used in the past

I used Virtual DJ (http://www.virtualdj.com/) for mine. Featureset wise, I bet it's comparable to Traktor (if a little less robust) but the upside is that it costs about USD $100 less.

I'll check out VDJ on B's rec, but I will probably end up using a combination of Cool Edit, Soundforge, and CD Architect simply because I know these programs well.

I'll use CE to track everything, SF if I need to do any fancy cuts or sampling, and CDA to put track stops on the mix.

Haven't even had a chance to do that!

My mind has just not been in the mood for anything creative....

Hoping things will clear up this weekend. We'll see. I'm running on about 6 hours of sleep since Sunday.

I have no problem waiting. I'm still listening to (and loving) the last mix.

I have a suggestion for another theme, whenever someone wants to tackle a mix (not me, tho, I don't have the skillz or the time). I'd like see us compile a CD of songs that define "beautiful" as in the type of song that's so fucking gorgeous it sends chills down your spine. Whether it's the vocals, instrumentation, lyrics or a combination thereof, I'd be really curious to see what songs MatchCutters classify as "beautiful." It would seem that such a collection would lend itself to slower-tempo stuff, but that may not be the case for everyone.

I already have my choice picked out.

Match Cut Mixtape Volume 8 - Summer Time Jam (http://www.mediafire.com/file/vcqmtzgl3nt/trotchky's version of Match Cut Mixtape 8 - Summer Time Jam.rar)

Pretty. Odd. is decidedly not terrible. I'm not exactly a fan, but it's better than most of the shit on z100 or equivalent radio station. I've only heard that one song from their first album and I don't like it.

I'm actually a really big fan of theirs. I just figured I'd introduce that somewhat surreptitiously.:P

Their first album is stuffed with pure post-modern satire. I love it. Pretty. Odd. is very 60s/70s feeling.
