No, it's completely relevant still, with statistics showing that a large number of women in the work force are still paid significantly less than the men who work beside (or in some cases even below) them.

Plus, there's the stereotype that a successful business woman has to be a cold, heartless bitch. Which I kind of agree with in general terms, but it's not just women. Many successful business men are cold, heartless assholes as well. Just kind of goes with the cut-throat nature of the business world.

I joked about "modern" in that Iron Man 2's thematic relevance to modern women's place in the work place is about 30 years outdated. Although that would be crediting it with actually dealing with said theme, which it doesn't, at all.

Well in the end Iron Man 2 is a merely a blockbuster, and the fact that it had anything worthy of noting political or otherwise is incredible to me. As in the fact that most blockbusters are big, dumb explosion filled movies, although that can be applied to Iron Man 2 as well.

After some more thought today, I realized that blow-back definantly applies to both Iron Man movies, but especially the second one. Plus a bunch more other items that I should work into that essay, and yes I agree with Raiders that military-industrial complex was discussed and covered, although in a limited fashion. I'm sure that Gary Shandling's senator wasn't really a call for libertarianism, so much as once again Hollywood painting Congress and government bureaucrats as being heavy handed, stupid, and out of touch with reality, among other things.

Libertarianism, yo.
Pretty much. Anything else is kind of pushing it.

Anyway, I think the movie walks a gray moral area in that it doesn't completely let Stark Industries off the hook. I mean, although the point isn't pushed to far, it's implied that the villain was created by Stark's backstabbing asshole of a father.

Honestly the film is a glorification of the repugnant behavior that finds us in our current economic situation, excess with limit. If you can switch off your brain its a lot of fun. If you can't, you're fully justified in despising it.

The script for this thing is retarded. All I can say that's really positive about the movie is that most of the performances rise above the perfunctory material, and Scarlett Jo. looks ridiculously sexy in a vacant kinda way. All in all, a significant downgrade from the original.

I've debated getting this on disc, but there are times I think back on this movie and I think it ultimately added up to a whole lot of nuttin'.

This movie was bad. Everything about it was a lousy sloppy mess, with the exception of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87DCjWd5WUM).

Why are there so many idiots there thinking it's Cloud's sword from "FF7"?

Where the hell do they get that from? And why would that be in Iron Man 2?

LOL. I was hoping someone would pick up on that.

Are there really a lot of people who genuinely believe that? I get a good laugh out of it, and see it as a joke.

It seemed from the comments section that yeah, there are several who really thought it was supposed to be Cloud's sword.

This movie is currently filed in the "I'll Watch It Only if My Wife Wants to Watch It For Some Reason" basket.

Pretty misguided film. Much feels incomplete, from the dueling dad theme to the Avengers seed-planting, and the rest feels generally lame, especially the uber-lame Iron Man face-off during the party, when Don Cheadle decides that a drunk Iron Man is far too dangerous for the party, so clearly the party needs another Iron Man with limited Iron Manning experience.

Rockwell and Rourke kept my interest. The rest felt like re-heated leftovers.

And she did. Better than the first one, but still pretty shoddy. If your basic story is as dull as this, you need a lot of interesting stuff going on in the margins. Pity Favreau has little to no directorial personality.

Yeah, this makes no sense to me. The first one was more focused, fresher, had a better villain.

At least the first was a coherent narrative.

The second was a feature-length advertisement for The Avengers with sprinkles of a story that felt more like Iron Man 1.5 than a sequel.

It was really bad.

I'm inclined to agree it ain't better than the first one, but boy is that margin agonizingly small.

I barely remember a thing about the first one. Except that it was boring. At least the second one has

a) No need for yet another turgid origin story
b) Scarlett Johanson in tight pants

Ergo, better than the first one.

While we all like Scarlett in tight pants, it was actually an origin story that was... Good? to me at least. And heck, Gwyneath ain't bad herself.

Hmm... come to think of it, it may be the best origin story of superheros that I can think of. As far as its translation to film.

As I said before,

The only thing better about the 2nd one over the first is this 10 seconds

well, that makes no sense since we have Superman 1978. Right buddy? Right?

Still gonna stick to my guns on this one.

As tempting as it is to engage in the defence of a middling superhero film, I think I'd much rather go and count the holes in my air vent.
