Does anyone have an IMDBPro account? Apparently there's new info on this that's exclusive to IMDBPro. Dunno if it's true or not.
Is the first movie worth seeing?

Its worth seeing once. I defend Daredevil somewhat (think along the lines of your Riddick double score) but Ghost Rider is rough.

Ghost Rider is bad, but hilariously so. There's a scene involving Eva Mendes and one of those 8-Balls that has to be seen to be believed.
I think the potential for a good movie is still there if it's rated R.

I don't see why.
Well, the only Ghost Rider comics I've read were by Todd McFarlane or Garth Ennis and they involved the Ghost exacting revenge on rapists, schoolyard drug dealers, stuff like that. Also, Hell stuff that was definitively on the adult side.
I just think Ghost Rider, like Punisher and Daredevil, is part of the staff of Marvel characters that represents the darker side of the company. The first movie was an average campy origin story, and it didn't work.

The first one must have done okay at the box office? It was wretched.
Maybe a sequel could have potential if Mark Steven Johnson wasn't involved. But still, the first film made the idea of a return to this character very unappealing.

I remember its opening weekend being respectable, but word of mouth killed it after that.
I'm confused as to why they'd even consider this.

Holy shit... that was beyond stupid.
At least she looked better than she did when she was introduced. In fact, young Eva looked beta than Eva.

Nicolas Cage talks a bit about the sequel to Ghost Rider, which he makes sound like it could be more of a reboot. ""I would like to reconceive [the movie]," he told MTV. "I would like to go in a whole other direction, and I think that's what they're talking about." He continues, "I would make it much less of a Western and more of an international story."

David Goyer is in early talks to create the story and supervise writers for a film expected to once again star Nicolas Cage, who played the highly flammable cyclist in the 2007 original.
Through a spokesperson, Goyer said he hadn’t signed on yet. But plans are already under way to base the sequel on a “Ghost Rider” script written years ago by Goyer, whose superhero work includes hit screen transfers of DC’s “Batman Begins” and Marvel’s “Blade” franchise. The original “Ghost Rider” was scripted by director Mark Steven Johnson.

Apparently, the script is 9 years old and would easily be a hard "R", so the studio is looking to edit it down to a measly PG-13. Yawn. Read on for the video. Nicolas Cage is confirmed to return in the role of Johnny Blaze a.k.a. Ghost Rider.

"It's not exactly a reboot," said Goyer, who's currently hard at work on his "FlashForward" television series. "I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider.'"
"This story picks up eight years after the first film," said Goyer. "You don't have to have seen the first film. It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film. It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he's just in a much darker, existential place."
As for where that existential place might be, Goyer wouldn't delve into specifics—mainly because he doesn't have to.
"My script is out there on the Internet," he said. "We're not changing much from it. It'll be significantly the same script."

Starting shooting in Novemeber in Romania and Turkey
Ciaran Hinds ("Rome," Harry Potter, also starring in Hammer Films' The Woman in Black) is in negotiations to rev up Columbia's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Heat Vision adds that Italian actress-singer Violante Placido is also in talks to join the cast. The movie, featuring Nicolas Cage as the demonic biker anti-hero based on the Marvel comic, is a sequel to the 2007 movie and has Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor behind the cameras. The story sees Johnny Blaze, aka Ghost Rider (Cage), hiding out in remote Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse. Blaze is recruited by a sect to take on the devil (Hinds), who wants to take over his mortal son's body on the boy's birthday. Placido will play the boy's mother. Neveldine and Taylor wrote the script, working off a story by David Goyer.

Highlander star Christopher Lambert revealed on the official Highlander Facebook page tat he''s in talks to star alongside Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Columbia Pictures' sequel to the Marvel Comics adaptation that also stars Ciaran Hinds, Violante Placido, Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth. Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Gamer, Crank) are currently in pre-production with a February 17, 2012 release slated. The story sees Johnny Blaze, aka Ghost Rider (Cage), hiding out in remote Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse. Blaze is recruited by a sect to take on the devil (Hinds), who wants to take over his mortal son's body on the boy's birthday.
That release obviously can't be right.
Also, Lambert should have been the Caretaker in the first movie. Or the voice of wisdom or whatever is equivalent to a Cogliostro like character.

Ghost Rider could have been decent if they didn't try to cram so much into so little time. Scrap the whole mini-boss thing they had going on, use that time to flesh out the story and central characters some more, and pretty much go from there.
The first one was pretty bad, but it sucks because the potential was actually there. Hopefully they've learned from there mistakes and can improve on the sequel.

Top 5 reasons to be excited for this:
1. It's violent. Really violent. It-may-possibly-be-rated-R-on-release violent.
2. Idris Elba's character is a warrior monk who is DRUNK THE WHOLE TIME.
3. Ghost Rider's Hellcycle isn't a special bike. Basically, anything Ghost Rider rides turns into a hell version. There's a sequence where Ghost Rider gets into a strip miner and it turns into a Hell Strip Miner.
4. This extends to bodily functions. At one point, Ghost Rider takes a piss and fire shoots out of his cock. In another, a thug unloads a whole clip of Uzi into Ghost Rider's face and he responds by eating the bullets and vomiting flaming bullets at the thug's face.
5. The tagline at the end of the trailer is: "GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE - Fucking your shit up in 3D February 2012."

Didn't these guys also direct the much-maligned Skyline? Or are those the guys from alien vs. Predator 2?
From those five reasons number8 provided, I'm gleaming from this it's the kind of movie where the hero can't get hurt no matter what is thrown at him.
I predict this will be appaling. Part one was no fun and the Crank movies became a pain to sit through after about half an hour.

I met Mark Steven Johnson after the first film came out at our local Comic Con, in 2007. Man, that guy. You know those guys who wear Polo shirts that are two sizes too small for them just to show off their tatted-up muscles, with the collar popped up and a sideways baseball cap?
He's that guy. He kept calling me 'bro.' I set his car on fire.
Also this looks interesting, but Neveldine/Taylor are just a shit directorial team so far. So, could go either way.
