I'm attending the 52nd Annual San Francisco International Film Festival for the next two weeks, and I'm going to try and see as many films as possible. It's a very diverse and eclectic festival, showing World cinema of any kind, from blockbuster HK action flicks to independent Swedish films, so I'm pretty excited in the line-up.

For a number of reasons, I will be posting links to my reviews/coverage of films and panels rather than copy-pasting them here, so I hope you guys don't mind. If you do, my testes would like a word.

Here are three articles I've written so far, and more to come today:

Introductory article (http://www.justpressplay.net/movies/movie-news/5187-52nd-san-francisco-international-film-festival-opens.html)

Reviews of The Beast Stalker (Hong Kong), Catherine Breillat's Bluebeard (France) and Hansel and Gretel (South Korea) (http://www.justpressplay.net/movies/movie-news/5194-sfiff52-day-2-the-beast-stalker-bluebeard-hansel-and-gretel.html)

Review of Zift (Bulgaria) (http://www.justpressplay.net/movies/movie-news/5201-sfiff52-review-zift.html)

Reviews coming today: Battle for Terra, Atom Egoyan's Adoration, Lake Tahoe, Empress Hotel.

Aw, re: lukewarmness toward Bluebeard. That could've been an awesome as a Catherine Breillat horror film.

I don't know anything about the film, btw - it probably makes zero motions towards being a horror flick, I know. It's just Fat Girl is the best, I need to see more of her work ASAP, and if she'd done or has done a horror film, that'd just about do it.

Yeah, I'm disappointed to hear it's not particularly good. I'll be checking it out anyway of course, but still.

Yeah, it ain't a horror film at all. If it helps, others have been pretty enthusiastic about it. It just didn't work for me at all.

As promised, here's more capsule reviews (75 words, mandated by the distributors, le sigh).

Battle for Terra (USA), Egoyan's Adoration (Canada), Empress Hotel (USA), Lake Tahoe (Mexico) (http://www.justpressplay.net/movies/movie-news/5203-sfiff52-day-3-battle-for-terra-adoration-empress-hotel-lake-tahoe.html)

Now off to home I go to shower and get into a nice suit. Going to the award show tonight honoring Evan Rachel Wood and Elijah Wood. Will post about that tomorrow, too.

I just watched the trailer a minute ago and it is kind of meh. I went in cold and I liked it a lot, actually. Like, a lot.

I'm writing a full review now and I'll post it sometime in the next week.

That's really cool news about Terra.

I wish Brian Cox would do more voicework for animated movies like this. He's got a great voice.

I considered making a trip up to the festival just to see 35 Rhums. Alas, neither of the showings were on days I could get off.

Hope you enjoy the festival though!

Maybe it would have worked if it was, oh, ten minutes, tops.

Oh dear. It's a pity no one ever pays any attention to movies shorter than 70 minutes.

Battle for Terra looks freaking sweet.

Just saw the trailer today - I hope it maintains a serious tone.

By the way, saw the Tetro trailer last night at an event honoring Coppola. It looked really good.
