Inspired by fas and Derek, I've decided to start a new project. I will be taking old, short, experimental, or found films and recording new soundtracks for them. I am not listening to the original music used until after my version is finished. I will also be trying to start and finish the track in one sitting, in order to capture the most fresh and initial response to the footage.

The first was chosen by Derek:

Light is Calling (2004)

Dir: Bill Morrison (constructed with a scene from The Bells (1926))
Original Music: Michael Gordon
New Music: Carl Sagan's Ghost

The new version, with music by Carl Sagan's Ghost, is available here. (http://carlsagansghost.com/albums/Lightcalling.avi)
right-click, save as to dl.

(please have patience, my server is kind of slow for a file this big ~300mb. Takes about 30 minutes to dl right now. In the future, I will work to make these smaller.)
(also, I had to use a demo program to decode/encode the video, so there is a watermark during some of it - these annoyances will be corrected later)
(I'll also look into starting a Youtube channel, but I imagine the videos will be deleted because of copyrights.)

The original, with music by Michael Gordon is available here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvbULcqSPC8&feature=PlayList&p=74E37F30276DD3FE&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=29)

If you like what you hear, and would like to suggest another video/film, please do so. I'd prefer to do short films, around 10 minutes in length. Or, even better, if you make your own films and would like some music, let me know.

I'll be doing more of these and posting them here if there is any interest.

Can't see the video. I'm just watching it on youtube with the original sound muted and yours over the top.

Hmmm...strange.

I'm uploading to Youtube now, so we'll see if that works.

The dl works on my PC...I wonder what the problem is?

I'm pretty new to video editing, so I'm sure I'll learn a lot during this process.

Dunno, could be my computer/version of quicktime/firefox also.

I suppose I prefer your music but personally I think the whole film could be about half the length without losing much.

The two tracks are somewhat similar. I guess the footage provokes a similar musical reaction.

A codec thing maybe?

Did you dl, or are you watching it in your browser?

Hopefully the Youtube thing works, because the cues will be tighter if people don't have to sync up the video/audio themselves...

That's the problem. Firefox has trouble with some QT.

If you right-click save as, you can dl and then watch.
