Yeah, well, it can go right ahead and fuck itself.

To move away from geeks and space aliens, it should call itself the SF Network.

There is a reason why many people who take the genre seriously, and who love the lit, refer to it as SF and not Sci-Fi.

Honestly, I think that the relabeling of scifi "sf" is just as silly as labeling of comic books "graphic novels."

“The name Sci Fi has been associated with geeks and dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements with video games and stuff like that, as opposed to the general public and the female audience in particular,” said TV historian Tim Brooks, who helped launch Sci Fi Channel when he worked at USA Network.

I thought Greg Dean was making up over at Real Life Comics, but there it is.

Great way to alienate a core audience! That'll make me wanna watch your watered down programming for sure!

Another reason the Sci-Fi channel sucks.

I used to think so as well, but a lot of authors disagree. One of the main reasons is that SF stands for Speculative Fiction, a much broader genre-label that includes stuff like sci-fi.

It actually makes a lot of sense, and over the past few years I've tried to use the term SF.

Whether it is silly or not, there is a distinction made by the community of readers and authors between the terms SF and Sci-Fi, and I respect this distinction when appropriate.

If it was just the fans making the distinction, I wouldn't care.

You should just call them "nerd books".

I will never like anything or anyone as much as Davis likes SF.

Agreed. Burning bridges is a GREAT way to promote your newer, shittier network. COMING SOON TO THE SYFY CHANNEL: MEGALODON VII: SHARKS IN SPACE! Quality programming for everybody!

Precisely.

Who cares if ECW, Ghost Hunters and Anaconda 5: Shakin' Snakin' will be on SyFy instead of Sci-Fi?

Of course.

What, you think they're calling themselves O-nee-ders?

What, so the audio now goes "Hey, we're still the Sci-Fi network. Only now with more pretentious spelling!"

J.H. Christ, that's...err...lame.

SYFY (man that title is so goddamn stupid) also has Dr. Who, but I could care less seeing as I only need to rent the last season to catch up. And I'll do the same for the newer seasons as well. DVD on TV rules.

I can't remember the last time I watched something on SCI-FI that wasn't a Twilight Zone marathon.

I am watching B-Star G, but on DVD.

This is the only time my TV is tuned to their station. Unless I happen upon a really bad movie and can't change the channel.

Yup. Once BSG is done, I'm still counting on them to produce gems like Aztec Rex (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jRuTVpK_YQ&feature=related).

I was particularly impressed by Locusts: The 8th Plague (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0491661/) starring former MTV Sports host Dan Cortese.

I wish there were clips on YouTube, but I came up empty.

Giant locusts. Dan "Step off, George" Cortese. Sci-Fi Original Movie. My imagination can take care of the rest. :)

Oh yeah, I remember hearing about the spinoff. I'll be watching that as well.

My friend and I were on the phone with each other when he happened upon it and told me to turn my TV to that station. We literally MST3K'd the rest of the film before hanging up. Longest phone conversation I've ever had.

Should SF original movies just debut with MST commentary?

Nah. I get too much enjoyment ripping them apart to have someone do it for me.

I actually forgot that they had the rights to the original Twilight Zone. I'm better off just buying the box sets, although I have tuned into some of their New Year's Eve marathons. The last one I saw though was a year or two ago.

I also remember that they used to show reruns of "Dark Skies" and "Dark Shadows," two shows that I've enjoyed in the past. The former was a solid X-Files rip off, the latter a vampire soap opera.

I've always loved watching Twylyte Zoan and Doktor Hu on this channel. It's going to be sad, giving them up.

Even the Twilight Zone on Siffy is compromised. The hour-long episodes are edited down a half-hour, butchering them. They can't even get the classics right.

Okay, well, I looked at their website, and they acknowledge the Season 4 hour-long episodes, but I swear I caught the butchered version of The Incredible World of Horace Ford late one evening.

I dunno what happened there, because I often watch hour-long TZ eps on Sci-Fi.
