Any possibility that we can PM you our vote instead? Like last year? Just for a little more mystery to it all?

I like Speed Racer as much as the next guy, but screenplay? Seriously?

If it were nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars, the clip they'd show for it would EASILY be this:

"Is that a ninja?"
"More like a NON-ja!"

Um, so I'll just put it this way: I find these nominations less interesting than the Oscars, even in terms of "oh, that sounds interesting, I might have to check it out."

I will not be voting, as I have seen like three of the nominees.

The Asian cult did not represent us well here this go-around. The lack of anything truly esoterically foreign (aka, not genre-based) makes me sad.

What did you see Jesse? Err... these are what I could potentially vote for. So yes, I exaggerated a little.

Sean Penn - Milk
Juliette Binoche - Flight of the Red Balloon
Asia Argento - The Last Mistress
David Straithairn - My Blueberry Nights
Milk - Best Ensemble
The Last Mistress - Best Adapted Screenplay
Paranoid Park - Best Cinematography
Flight of the Red Balloon - Best Cinematography
My Blueberry Nights - Best Cinematography
The Last Mistress - Best Costume
Milk - Best Costume
"Jai Ho" - Slumdog Millionaire
"O... Saya" - Slumdog Millionaire

And the few other noms Milk and Last Mistress got.

Ouch. Really? Even with Binoche, Argento, Schygulla, and the bizarre Speed Racer lovefest?

Anyway, I've made an alternate jesse-friendly lineup you can vote from.

BEST PICTURE
The Duchess of Langeais

La France
I Can No Longer Hear the Guitar
Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour

Ouch. Really? Even with Binoche, Argento, Schygulla, and the bizarre Speed Racer lovefest? Well, the Dark Knight/Speed Racer love is completely lost on me. And I was exaggerating, of course--I'm actually very much looking forward to Let the Right One In which got a number of nominations.

I Can No Longer Hear the Guitar
Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour  Now you're talking! There are four films there where I say "oh, that sounds interesting, I might have to check it out." Since I've only seen the Rivette film, I'll have to go with that.

Y'know, I Can No Longer Hear the Guitar is being released by Zeitgeist in May, along with another Garrel (Emergency Kisses). I've been meaning to see more Garrel after Regular Lovers rocked my world, and I hear the former is one of his very best.

Also, I wasn't that keen on Speed Racer for the most part, but the love for it is a welcome idiosyncrasy in my opinion (unlike The Dark Knight).

I don't feel it'd be right for me to vote since I've seen so few of the nominees.

For example, I haven't seen any of the films from the Best Actor section.

I don't think "guess" votes or totally uninformed "I voted for this because I like the guy" votes would be much appreciated.

I'd just vote for the categories that I'd feel strongly about then.

I wouldn't see a problem with it at all. I'm sure a few people haven't seen any of the documentaries, and probably left them blank.

The only category I could not vote for was "Best Visual Effects."

EDIT: I mean "Best Art Direction" (which is odd, since this is somewhat important to me). I simply abstained from voting for "Best Visual Effects," even though I had seen a majority of the nominees.
