I received a call this afternoon from my stepmother to notify that my dog (the Powerful One) finally was put to rest. Poppy (what most mortals referred to her as) was 17 years old and lived a full life. This is probably why I'm not as sad as most people when their pet dies especially a pet as close as mine was. She didn't die young and was on edge of her sanity, so it was better this way.

Very sorry to hear Wats; I lost Allie (my golden retriever) a week before my trip to NYC last year and it cast a melancholic shadow over my holiday.

RIP.

I'm wonder if it will ever hit me since I've been living away from her for over the past year and have been caught up by the presence of Barty's cat.

At least I got to see her one last time last week.

Yeah, it didn't hit me at first but the more I remembered her, the more wistful I became.

We got a new male golden retriever pretty soon after, and I keep referring to him as 'girl' and calling him Allie.

At least we know Powerful Dog and Allie are watching Bergman films together up in Doggie Heaven.

Sorry to hear. It's never easy when pets die, even when they live that long of a life. RIP.

You're not an easy person to read, Wats, but your love for the Powerful Dog was always so obviously deep and true. I'm sorry she passed on.

My condolences Wats. Losing a pet is always difficult, no matter the circumstances. I'm happy to hear she lived a long life, and that you're taking the news about as well as anyone could.

Wow, 17 years? That's a pretty good run for a dog. I wasn't aware there were dogs that lived that long.

Nonetheless, sorry about your loss.

Noooooo! Not the powerful dog!

Celia and Max both said they're sorry.

My condolences, Wats.

I worry this same fate will befall the dog I have back home sooner rather than later. And it's gonna be tough. Glad you're taking it as well as you are.

I'm very sorry, Wats.

Losing a dog is just like losing a member of the family.
