KF, OMG.

I have a perverse interest in I Know Who Killed Me after reading a few bloggers I follow laud it as some future Troll 2-esque bad movie classic.

I must see Paprika. The Namesake is well worth checking out. Irfan Khan is fantastic in it.

Didn't First Snow come out like in March? I wonder what took so long.

I'll eventually buy Paprika.

KF, OMG.

I have a perverse interest in I Know Who Killed Me after reading a few bloggers I follow laud it as some future Troll 2-esque bad movie classic.Bill Chambers of FFC has said that he thinks it's a genuinely entertaining modern Giallo, just the sort of thing most critics would dismiss on sheer impulse, especially with the Lohan hoopla surrounding it. This has sparked my interest more than the "so bad it's good!" camp. Here is what he had to say:

"Stop the presses: I actually enjoyed a Lindsay Lohan movie. It would have to be I Know Who Killed Me, the one that was universally eviscerated, but from the title on down it's a pretty effective quasi-giallo, and I firmly believe that all the laughs to be had in it--and oh, are there laughs aplenty--are mostly of the intentional variety. And in a weird way, despite the fact that Lohan plays a one-legged, one-armed exotic dancer who does her centrepiece striptease with a blood-covered pole, it's not half as skeezy as Georgia Rule or Just My Luck."

4real.

I'll rent Waitress, The Namesake, First Snow, and Susana at some point.

Finally. Paprika. It is mine.

I'd also like to check out the new Drunken Angel release. The English subtitles on my old copy are nigh impenetrable. Might as well have not been English. Although Sugata Sanshiro probably takes the cake in terms of worse subtitles I've ever endured.

I should've amended my post; I've been lead to believe that it's 'so bad that it's actually kinda good' rather than 'so bad that experience of making fun of it makes it good', ala the kind that Chris Fujiwara diagnosed in that article you posted recently. Vadim Rizov says:

"Wow. Half completely incompetent, half brilliant, I Know Who Killed Me is the Hollywood-improved version of Inland Empire: doppelgangers and shitty video photography abound, but also a sense of genuine menace and the baroque missing from Inland's recycled Lynch-isms. Not to be too hyperbolic: part of what makes I Know Who Killed Me so much fun to watch is that parts of it are genuinely awful, like Sivertson painting pretty much every damn image either completely blue or red, depending on the motif of the moment, to the point of self-parody. There's also Ms. Lohan, a train-wreck playing herself, more or less: terrible, burned-out skin, a husky voice, a constant sense of unease with her own body. The unremitting sleaze is appalling too: there's graphic dismemberment and enough slow-mo strip-teases for a Zalman King outtakes reel. The flip-side are a half-dozen or so astonishing set-pieces, including pretty much all of the finale — prosthetic limbs hanging from a ceiling like so many sausages, a mad pianist in his room banging atonally away with one hand — the butterfly tattoo dream seqeuence, and Lohan's sudden bleeding. The combination is overload and a blast to watch, aided by one of the most hostile multiplex audiences in recent memory: "I want to confront the director on his wackness!" yelled the high-school kid behind me repeatedly for the last 10 minutes. Then his friends ran into the street when it was over and started yelling at random pedestrians to avoid this movie. How do they get away with this stuff etc."

So yeah, I guess it does sound kinda giallo-esque.

As someone who was underwhelmed by Inland Empire and loves b-movie sensibilities at their most baroque, this is encouraging.

I was entertaining the idea of watching Bratz just to be the first person on the forum to actually watch the damn thing ( at KF), but then I remembered number8 saw it and was safely talked out of it.

I Know Who Killed Me is the kind of movie that must have a strong lead performance to work properly. Often times, these kind of dumbass hollywood stories can be greatly improved by a good lead. This film isn't offensively bad [excep for the climactic scenes, which are fucking ridiculous] its offensively bland. The highlight is a sex scene featuring a sickly looking Lohan. Her scratchy pre-pubescent whine of a voice is also extremely harsh on the nerves.

I'll rent Paprika and First Snow.

Hmm, I think I need to get on the I Know Who Killed Me bandwagon, though to be perfectly honest Bratz looks more up my alley for a good film to watch with the drinking crowd. Some friends and I are gonna watch Gozu that way on Friday...

Currently Reading
The Unnatural Tragedie, by Margaret Cavendish Wrong forum, I know, but I just wanted to mention that I dig Cavendish. That woman was crazy, and in a good way.

I could totally see a biopic along the lines of Elizabeth being made about her.

So yeah, I guess it does sound kinda giallo-esque. I remember reading that and thinking "that sounds intriguing." And then I remembered I hate films like this.

I wish Vadim would write more.

I'd like to see Susana, Bender's Big Score, Paprika, Hot Fuzz, and Our Hitler. The quote on the cover of Our Hitler is from Susan Sontag, and she was no dummy. I've also noticed she didn't have bad taste in film.

Set expectations to 'modest' for the Bunuel film. It's OK, but it's probably not going to wow anyone.

Our Hitler sounds absolutely fascinating from everything I've read about it, though I'll admit the 8-hour running time intimidates me a bit. Maybe I'll try to watch it in one sitting with NO breaks just to steal some of Raiders' Shoah thunder. :)

With all the brief supporting roles he's had over the last couple years, I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up here at some point.

Our Hitler is one of those legendary films I've wanted to see for many years, almost as much as BA. Now, if I could only get a chance to watch Gance's Napoleon and Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles again after all these years, I'll be a happy guy for a while.

However, you can download Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles from mininova.org, and the quality is pretty good if you have the space for it on your hard drive.
