I liked him in it, but I'm a big fan of his in other roles too (Saving Private Ryan, Secretary, Rescue Dawn) Something tells me you wouldn't like it though Boner.

Compared to his roles in Solaris and Rescue Dawn, he downright stoic in Spanking the Monkey. It's not a great film, but worth checking out if you like David O. Russell.

They're actually the only two Wenders films I've seen. I also own Wings of Desire and haven't seen it yet.

Did you watch the 280 minute version? I'm sure the runtime has something to do with it, plus Netflix doesn't have it so you'd have to procure it from other sources. I've been interested in watching it, but I want to try some of his other, earlier films first to make sure I'm into him. The American Friend didn't exactly wow me the way Paris, Texas did. Alice in the Cities will probably be my next Wenders film.

No. Think mine was the 158 minute version. It was screening at a Wenders festival a couple years ago. Surprised it has never gotten a proper R1 release of some sort.

Definitely one of my favorites. Has anyone read his book The Logic of Images? His answer to the question "Why do you make films?" is priceless. One of his earliest films was something very similar to RR and his discussion of how an incident during its making forced him to accept narrative is always a great read.

Not speaking for everyone, if I were to watch either it would be downloads. There are German DVDs available. I'm not sure about English subtitles, but if they do have them, ordering them online through Amazon.de , and watching them on a region free DVD player would also be an option for some.
