It kinda bums me that Carax will finally get the exposure he deserves, but for an apparently subpar work (at least according to the reviews I've read).
Anyway, this looks better than New York, I Love You. But then, it'd have to.

Saw it. Not very good.
Can't even tell you what Carax's movie was about now.

Bong Joon-ho's was the best, but all three were pretty great.
It's not at all like Paris, J'etaime or NY, I Love You.

Has New York, I Love You came out? If so, how is it?

Not sure how though. Just longer stories really.

They're not love letters to the city, and rather than just certain stories fueled by the city's essence, the three in Tokyo! are more like supernatural fairy tales that actually criticize Tokyo/Japan quite harshly.
That surprised me a bit, because they're all by foreigners.

i would like to like it, really. if there were some good in carax's section, i might have found the film slightly above average. as it is, i don't even want to recommend people to watch it in theatre. dvd is a better choice, so you can skip the entire middle section.
seriously. i don't even know what's more offensive, the content or how bad it is. it's intentional, perhaps? well, you can say the same thing about freddy got fingered.

Good idea for the DVD part. I'd probably watch it again and like the two other parts significantly more if it weren't for that.

no question, there's a lot to love in interior design and shaking tokyo. the first is a bit weaken by the gondryism -- especially near the conclusion -- but still a compelling work. i like the blue-ish tone and some honest exchanges between the leads. ST, if anything, might be too cute and lack in subtlety. nonetheless some nice touches save the film.

Enjoyed this a whole lot more than I expected to based on the critical reception. I'll echo a lot of what number8 said, each of the three stories works as a miniature supernatural view of the city.
This was my first experience with Carax, so I can't speak to how well it stacks up to his other work, but I found his short to be the most invigorating, if only for that first hilarious tracking shot down the street.
Anyways, more people should watch this.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but speaking of Stuff White People Like, I used to be kind of ashamed about my whiteness until I realized it was pretty racist of me to try to emulate black culture and/or stereotypes. Now I just embrace my inner nervous white guy.

The "twist" in Gondry's was really dumb I thought. I liked it up til that point though. As a whole, didn't particularly care for this

i don't think it's a twist as much as a tonal shift. i don't like it either.
