View Full Version : Best Worst Songs mixcd suggestions

So I'm in a competition to come up with the "Best Worst Songs" mixcd with a friend, limited chiefly to songs from the 80s-00s.

So far I've got:

Journey - Don't Stop Believing
Whitesnake - Here I Go Again
New Kids on the Block - You Got It (The Right Stuff)
A-Ha - Take On Me

I'm debating the virtues of Oasis, Cranberries and a few others. Give me suggestions for best worst...

How is this a bad song? :|

It's not quite a bad song, but it's gloriously over-the-top awesomeness has led to me witnessing many a horrific karaoke butchering of the song. Beyond the NKotB, I quite like all the other three songs, but they're representative of the culture's excess in which they were produced. This mix is supposed to show that excess.

For example, My Humps can't make the list because it's not a Best... song, it's merely bad. Hollaback Girl, though, has a chance...

Air Supply - "Making Love Out of Nothing At All"

This music video is almost as glorious as the Danish music videos from the old site...

Oh, and Hollaback is so much better than Humps.

I don't even love it in an ironic way. I genuinely think it's a good song. It's crass, but it's also a fun pop song.

Um... have you considered
THE FINAL COUNTDOOOOWN!!! (sorry)

as well as
"Party All The Time" - Eddie Murphy
"(I Just) Died In Your Arms" - Cutting Crew
"Jump Around" - House Of Pain

and if you want something from this year, nothing in recent memory is as perfect at being hilariously terrible (and with a sadly catchy melody) as T-Pain's summer club-banger "Buy U A Drank".

Most of my good-bad music knowledge is from the 80s thanks to my two older sisters.

Crowded House - "Don't Dream It's Over"
A Flock of Seagulls - "I Ran"
Thomas Dolby - "She Blinded Me With Science"
Martika - "Toy Soldiers" (almost as good-bad as the Sean Astin/Will Wheaton vehicle of the same name)
The GoGo's - "Vacation"
Spandau Ballet - "True"
Naked Eyes - "Always Something There To Remind Me"
Thompson Twins - "Hold Me Now"
'Till Tuesday - "Voices Carry"
Starship - "We Built This City"

"We Built This City" is wretched, but for some reason, it's the only song that reminds me of the roller rink I used to go to as a kid...and pwn some asses at Ring Kings b/w crashing into walls and littler kids.[/dating self]

"I Ran" is one of the few songs I don't completely butcher in karaoke.

All the 80s music being suggested reminds me - there's a soft rock 80s song with a famous saxophone solo. It's hard for me to fully describe it, but does anyone have an idea of what song I'm thinking of?

The first thing that springs to mind is Glenn Frey's "The Heat is On".

You win dreamdead, especially since she went with some over-obvious choices (Hanson, Britney, Vanilla Ice, Spice Girls) and missed a huge opportunity with Wham!, overlooking "Carless Whisper".

The inclusion of Mr. Mister is brilliant - one I'm embarrassed to have missed myself. Now, I'm mostly disheartened by you and Spinal suggesting that "My Humps" is anything short of plain old awful. And shame on you Spinal for calling "Don't Stop Believing" a good song while ignoring "Melt With You".

I think of "My Humps" as a humorous dialogue between two shallow and horny club goers. It always seemed to me that Fergie and Will were having fun playing characters. That they were poking fun at certain 'types' that one might encounter when out dancing.

I don't know. The song amuses me. It cracks me up when he asks what she's gonna do wit' all that breast (singular) inside that shirt.
