A new CGI animated film produced by Tim Burton, but it doesn't have that typical Tim Burton feel to it.
It looks...well...pretty amazing.
Features the voice talents of Elijah Wood, Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, Christopher Plummer, Martin Landau and John C. Reilly.
Trailer is here in various sizes. (http://www.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/9/)
I think it looks pretty incredible. The music by Coheed & Cambria worked really well.

The trailer does, but check out the short. If possible, find a better version then what 8 posted, because it's pretty awesome to see.

Bit better version of the short. (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1jl41_9-nine-shane-acker-short-animation_creation)
Doesn't have porn playing in the background.

wow, even if they don't keep the somber feel of the short, it already looks nothing like the CGI family flicks that flood the summer, i'm in even if it's a failure.
Looks like a videogame.
Maybe because the characters are grown up versions of LBP sackboys... :P

New trailer (http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/05/19/9-movie-trailer-2/)
With 9, District 9, Nine, and 9.99, it looks to be a good year for the IX.

i really enjoyed the different personalities of the nine, even from this brief trailer and the animation looks great.
yeah, i'm so there when it opens.

Something tells me I'm going to enjoy this - if only because Elijah Wood is a surprisingly good voice actor.
We shall see.

Also, stitchpunk is my new favorite word.

I don't see why Burton would have to be a factor in it. I loved the short and Acker seems to be broadening the scope while staying true to the concept, which is all I ask.

I'm worried that this movie is going to be like Dinosaur, where the animation is amazing, but as soon as the characters open their mouths to speak, you're like, "... ew."
Some animated films would be better off silent (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=71846206387970 68600#).

This looks quite weird, and I'm not quite sure what to think of it. Doubtful that I'll view it in theaters, but it will probably be a rental.

Disappointing. I like how dark it gets (there are human corpses and severed limbs left strewn about in the apocalyptic world, and yes, they show em), but it's really just the short stretched to 90 minutes with no story or distinct characters. It really feels like it's just 90 minutes of ragdolls jumping around.

Also, haha, I think Acker made this a silent movie and the studio asked him to add some lines here and there so they can cast famous voices. What shitty, arbitrary dialogue that add absolutely nothing to the film. Good thing it's kept to a minimum. I like how they hired Crispin Glover essentially just to make frightened noises for the whole movie.

Pretty much.
Some fantastic action set-pieces, but ultimately, I couldn't even tell you what this movie is about.
It has some great moments though.

This qualifies as a movie? And I thought Avatar was low on plot....
Some visual brilliance, however.
Oh, and the most (only?) crucial part of the plot is spoiled early in the blurb on the back of the DVD packaging.
EDIT: Nevermind, I guess the trailer spoiled it too. And it was no stretch, but the characters sure made it seem like it should be an A-HA! moment. (But not like Take on Me.)

BEANBAGS FIGHTING ROBOTS
"We have to go find him!"
BEANBAGS FIGHTING ROBOTS
"We can't go back there!"
BEANBAGS FIGHTING ROBOTS
"We have to go find them!"
BEANBAGS FIGHTING ROBOTS
"We have to go back to the first room!"
That's - literally the entire fucking movie. It's very pretty, but goddamn.

Wow, I really liked this a lot more than any of you guys.
I am in agreement that it's low on plot, but the concept is so incredible and the landscape so beautiful in its stitchpunk apocaliptiness that I was engaged for the whole running time. I also agree that the star-studded cast wasn't necessary, but that seems to be a fixture of big budget American animation and, as long as actors as good as Martin Landau or Christopher Plummer are used, I don't really mind.
Those two acceptable criticism simply didn't bring the movie down that much.
It could help that I didn't see the short 'till after the feature and so the story packed an added punch.

I loved the concept of the plot, loved the universe, loved the design, but it's too short and too unexplained. What the hell was up with the ending?
