LOXG is one of the worst comic book films ever but at least his pitch for a new Crow is good.

"...the new movie will be realistic, hard-edged and mysterious."

Uh. That pretty much describes the first film. Style notwithstanding.

Yes, but re-imagined! You understand? Re-imagined!

Calm down. Good movies can come from anywhere.

It's a movie about a guy who comes back from the dead.
How realistic can this be?

A lot of people think the Bible is realistic.

ZING!

The first film has aged really poorly. I rewatched it a couple of years ago, and beyond the limited nostalgia factor (and the pretty great alt-rock soundtrack), I didn't care for it much.

It contains some good moments, but I think there is enough life left in the original comic book to make another adaptation.

If they do indeed reboot it, how much you wanna bet that they "Twilight" the hell out of it?

I wonder if the generations to come will watch the good movies or this endless string of remakes.

What a fucking depressing thought.

Combining the two properties does seem logical.

Apparently they are taking the reboot in a completely different direction. The story is: "very different from the original"

What a fucking depressing thought. If they're too dumb or lazy enough to seek out the originals, well hell that's their problem.

I never saw The Crow. I don't think it would be my kind of movie.

indeed. i find it slightly disturbing that now "reimagine" or "reboot" is like some kinda magic spell. suddenly every franchise can be turned into batman begin or casino royale.

Stephen Norrington's current draft of The Crow reboot has been "very well received" by Relativity Media. According to their source, the project is moving forward and attention will now turn to casting the film. If this is true, expect some announcements within the next few weeks, along with a planned 2011 release

Who do you want to see as the Crow?

Leave The Crow alone. The first film was alright as a stylistic exercise, but there's not much of worth that can be eked out of the graphic novel. Artwork is beautiful, writing is terrible.

And, Stephen Norrington directing. This will not be a good movie.

"It's not a remake it's literally a relaunch of the franchise," Producer Ryan Kavanaugh reveals to io9 during an interview for his forthcoming film Brothers.

He adds that the make-up will also be very different and uses Batman as a comparison.

"No, totally different... He'll have makeup, but it will be different. The best way to compare it is the first 'Batman' and 'Batman Begins'. In terms of their look and feel and character."

While the project has yet to be greenlit, things are progressing well.

"Yeah we're still tweaking it, but it's finished," he says of the script. "We're very excited about it. The Crow is definitely going to happen, we're just getting all the pieces together right now. It's not officially greenlit, but it's going to happen... I think in a couple months we could have the package together for sure."

I hope the Batman thing is just because it's the most successful example in franchise reboots, and not literal. Because that means they want to ditch the goth mood and replace it with forced realism. Let me guess—he's not even dead, is he?

BuffaloWilder
11-24-2009, 06:25 PM
Well, there's some argument about that - the graphic novel never really makes it clear if he's dead or not. It's his wife-to-be who dies first.

The Crow is one of the very, very few instances where I felt the movie greatly surpassed the comic book source material.

The graphic novel is all right - some beautiful artwork, but the writing has not aged well at all.

The movie is still freakin' awesome.

Do we need to see Mark Wahlberg talk to yet another animal? That SNL sketch of Andy Sandburg mocking Wahlberg, followed by Wahlberg showing up and poking fun at himself while menancing Sandburg, was hilarious. So if he's in The Crow then they'll do a sequel to that sketch with him asking a random bird "Hey, bird. I see you got feathers. I made a movie where I talk to a bird that has feathers. Did you see my movie? Say hi to the family for me."

Carlos Fresnadillo might be directing.. which means this movie is going to be terrible if he does.

I loved the opening scene to 28 Weeks Later, but the rest of the movie wasn't very interesting. The 2nd half of 28 Days Later isn't very good either, but I find the journey is more exciting than it's sequel.

Different strokes.

I at least don't see anything he's done as proof that this will be "terrible" because of him.

Chalk me up as another who found 28 Weeks Later frequently masterful and superior to the still-great original.

I'm not that happy he's signed on here as I am doubtful to watch this film.

According to Latino-Review's @Da7e, who provides a video script review, this new version will have Eric Draven as murdered police officer instead of a musician. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. This Eric Draven will also be highly religious, quoting bible passages left and right. Oh, and he is an orphan, and his fiancee will be an orphan, and both of them knew each other at an early age because they came from the same orphanage.

The new version of the Crow has ghost powers as he can walk through walls and possess other people's bodies. He also possess regenerative powers, enhanced strength and can jump really high.
