Looked in the director consensus thread and found nothing. So yes, it's another one of those. I'm just now deciding to dive back in. I've seen and liked, but didn't love, both Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia and Straw Dogs.

I have The Wild Bunch coming this weekend.

One of those filmmakers whose work is bleak and potentially nihilistic, but nonetheless rich and alive with character and cinematic prowess.

Not too much left from him to see. Outside of The Getaway and Cross of Iron, everything from him has been good to masterful.

Cable Hogue, Straw Dogs, Wild Bunch, Pat Garrett, and Alfredo Garcia are all top-notch.

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia - 9.5, although even if it sucked it'd still have Warren Oates talking to a jarred head
Cross of Iron - been too long & watched a heavily edited TV version, but remember it being good... 7.5 I guess

Ride the High Country is my favorite. Doesn't have the reputation of The Wild Bunch, but it's just as good.

Alfredo Garcia was very silly. I give it a 5 or a 6.

Though excellent, The Wild Bunch/The Sacred Cow never quite hits me all the way. Something about the "bonding" scenes (anxiety>joke>extreme laughter>repeat) never gels with me. Rest of it is gold though. Love Borgnine's relationship to/with Holden.
