Not a huge fan, and his glossy aesthetic and continual genre-shifting prevents him from ever expanding his cinematics into a coherent personal philosophy. Instead, as others have contended, he's the middlebrow director who has no personal vision, but keeps everything prettily photographed. StF succeeds despite him; it's Kaufman-lite narrative is admittedly heavy-handed, but the quirk that the film contains somehow works despite its overbearing pretensions.

The thing I'll say for him is that he wrests good performances from his actors. Ledger in particular was solid if a bit-note; it's just the screenplays play things too safe.

I sympathize. Cancer has laid waste to my family like the black death. But I still think Finding Neverland is treacly, vapid, and shallow.

Both I think. I watch some films in advance for the consensus and then I later check out the highly rated films.

Can't say I'm impressed with the guy, especially after his flat direction for the new Bond picture. Still, he seems skilled enough at jumping between different types of films...

...it kinda bugs me that he's been tabbed for World War Z, though. I wish that could've been made into a series for television.
