Mom scratches 'B' word onto her son's forehead and sends him off to school (http://www.theindychannel.com/news/18213635/detail.html#-)

The boy's mother -- Sherri A. Feuston, 30 -- when questioned about the incident, told police she was just playing around with her son. She said she sat on the boy's chest and wrote the word as they were roughhousing.

"When little kids at school came up asking him what happened to his forehead he became embarrassed and cried," said Delaware County investigator Nancy Marvin. "That made his face red. It stood out even more, which made it worse."

Nothing wrong with a mother pinning down her 9-year old, scratching "bitch' on his head and sending him off to school where he was so embarrassed he broke down and cried? Please don't have children.

When I first read the article, I didn't see the photo of the kid. I didn't know if the 'B-word' of the article was a reference to 'Bastard' or 'Bitch'. After your post, I revisited the article and saw the photo in question. I saw it well enough to see that she had scratched the word, "BITCH" into his forehead. So, yeah, you can kinda see it.

She may not be the worst person in the world, but I'm sorry, she should have her son taken away. That kind of trauma can screw up a kid for years. I don't know if any kind of education or whatever is going to fix that woman's mind. "Just playing around?" Are you fucking kidding me? If a stranger did that to that boy, it would be an outrage. Having your mother, your nurturer, do that to you when you're 9 years old? Beyond the pale.

He's dead, sure, but when it comes to worst people ever, I'd say Albert Fish is a contender.

This is a letter he sent to the mother of one of his victims...

Dear Mrs. Budd. In 1894 a friend of mine shipped as a deck hand on the Steamer Tacoma, Capt. John Davis. They sailed from San Francisco for Hong Kong, China. On arriving there he and two others went ashore and got drunk. When they returned the boat was gone. At that time there was famine in China. Meat of any kind was from $1-3 per pound. So great was the suffering among the very poor that all children under 12 were sold for food in order to keep others from starving. A boy or girl under 14 was not safe in the street. You could go in any shop and ask for steak—chops—or stew meat. Part of the naked body of a boy or girl would be brought out and just what you wanted cut from it. A boy or girl's behind which is the sweetest part of the body and sold as veal cutlet brought the highest price. John staid [sic] there so long he acquired a taste for human flesh. On his return to N.Y. he stole two boys, one 7 and one 11. Took them to his home stripped them naked tied them in a closet. Then burned everything they had on. Several times every day and night he spanked them – tortured them – to make their meat good and tender. First he killed the 11 year old boy, because he had the fattest ass and of course the most meat on it. Every part of his body was cooked and eaten except the head—bones and guts. He was roasted in the oven (all of his ass), boiled, broiled, fried and stewed. The little boy was next, went the same way. At that time, I was living at 409 E 100 St. near—right side. He told me so often how good human flesh was I made up my mind to taste it. On Sunday June the 3, 1928 I called on you at 406 W 15 St. Brought you pot cheese—strawberries. We had lunch. Grace sat in my lap and kissed me. I made up my mind to eat her. On the pretense of taking her to a party. You said yes she could go. I took her to an empty house in Westchester I had already picked out. When we got there, I told her to remain outside. She picked wildflowers. I went upstairs and stripped all my clothes off. I knew if I did not I would get her blood on them. When all was ready I went to the window and called her. Then I hid in a closet until she was in the room. When she saw me all naked she began to cry and tried to run down the stairs. I grabbed her and she said she would tell her mamma. First I stripped her naked. How she did kick – bite and scratch. I choked her to death, then cut her in small pieces so I could take my meat to my rooms. Cook and eat it. How sweet and tender her little ass was roasted in the oven. It took me 9 days to eat her entire body. I did not fuck her tho I could of had I wished. She died a virgin.

This thread is titled "worst people in the world" and not "really irresponsible people. The title itself invites discussion of relative awfulness. eternity is the only one who bothered to look at this case beyond its headline. Everyone else is far too dismissive of the issues presented.

The article doesn't say how she scratched the boy. If she used a knife or perhaps a key that's one thing, but what if she used her finger or a penny? In truth, the marking does seem fairly faint, but we don't know how much time passed before that photo was taken. What if it was taken hours after the incident and the marking was completely gone by the end of the day? Would you look at the case differently if it was the boys older brother who scratched the word on his head with his finger? Would you consider him one of the worst people in the world? Her characterizing this incident as "rough housing" suggests she had no malicious intentions here. Maybe she simply thought it was funny. Irresponsible? Yes. But do we consider irresponsible people worse than malicious people? The "rough housing" also suggests the two have a relatively amicable and even playful releationship. Is this woman as bad as the dad who habitually abuses his children every day by more traditional means? Is she as bad as a murderer, rapist, or pedophile? I'd be horrified if anyone here said so. Again, she is more than deserving of being placed in a thread title "World's Stupidest Parents," but how can you say she's any worse than a violent felon if she had no malicious intent?

Our cultural prediliction for hyperbolae has created a disturbing trend wherein people start to argue morality in relation to the hyperbolic statement itself ("It's not the greatest/wettest/highest/most profound/worst"), thus tending to quash genuine discussion of the finer points of ethical dilemmas, and more problematic, allowing morally dubious situations to be dismissed as "Not that bad."

To me, that MySpace woman is inhuman, amoral and detestable, and I couldn't give two fucks that it doesn't get near the Nazis in the pantheon of shitty human actions. One would hope that is never, ever the point in trying to figure out what is right and wrong.
