This movie is surprisingly wimpy at times Duke. I don't understand that decision either. It pales in comparison to Commando and The Delta Force.

Commando is absolute cheese city. Entertaining, sure, but it is absolute over the top cheese. The Expendables is head and shoulders above it as far as movies go.
And Delta Force? Really?

Yes, there are some attempts at gravitas in the 2010 flick - the rourke monologue springs to mind - but I could just as easily have done without such moments. As for Commando, it is funnier thanks to oneliners that one can actually remember, but other than that it's a shoot em up very similar to the expendables. As for delta force, well yeah. Better score courtesy of alan silvestri, better villain in robert forster and Ultimate hardass Lee marvin. Ok, so I may have exagerated, but the mission and supporting players in expendables bored me no end. The delta force felt more culled from real world headlines, but starring chuck norris and unmistakably 80's nevertheless. I was more engaged.

Did it bother anyone else that Rourke was tattooing without any gloves on? And add to the fact that the tattoo session was 30 seconds long? And they didn't bandage him up or anything? I mean, do some research for a movie will ya.

No, Commando is indeed much better than The Expandables. Better one-liners, Arnuld going over the top badass, and the fact the movie acknowledges that its utterly insane and really unrealistic, but just rolls with it anyways. Plus Bill Duke fighting Arnuld was probably the movie's best fight, followed by Matrix v. Bennett.

How would Commando rate if someone besides Ah-nuld starred in it?

Asking questions like that can lead you to a dark, dark place.

I've always given Commando a LOT of leeway because of Schwarzenegger.
Its not a good movie.

I might agree with you. The man was a star and rightly so! But the movie is just awesomely preposterous as well without ever feeling lame or fake.
Bad guys remain bad, the movie just moves at a fair old clip...and it also throws in bill paxton :D

I think Sly would have done just fine in Commando. And I think its really a good action movie.

This is crazy.
Half the lines in the script cannot be delivered by anyone else and still resonate.
Would anyone really like the "Dead tired" joke if it was Van Damme?

I mean, right now I'm imagining Stallone saying "Hey, Sully, remember when I said I would kill you last? I lied!" and it just comes out terrible.
