I've decided that I can no longer justify theater prices on my budget, even at matinee prices. As such, I will now see a movie or two every Wednesday, when the discount theater prices are a mere $1.50 per ticket. The best price I can find anywhere else nearby is at a certain chain that charges $6.50 per matinee ticket, more than quadruple the discount theater deal. This week, I plan on seeing Vicky Christina Barcelona and Pineapple Express.

Anyone regularly use these, or find themselves in a position requiring you to do so?

I don't use the one in my town, mainly because it's a completely different crowd. You want young moms with babies in tow, 3 year olds running down the isles, loud drunk teenagers, etc., that's your hot spot. Not saying those things don't happen at the regular priced spots around town, but it's far less frequent. Not only that, but the screens and sound are noticeably inferior at the discount theater (and mine is attached to a first-run theater). Plus not every film ends up at the cheap seats, so if I wanted to see something like Vicky Cristina Barcelona, I'd have no choice other than to go to the other theater. Then again, I live in a shithole town. Perhaps it's different in other areas.

This. I get in free at one of my local theaters, which helps out quite a bit.

well, i can't say the one i go to isn't in a crappy town. but it's the same way. alot more babies and teenagers that seem to be there just to be there and not necessarily cause they want to see the movie. i guess a ticket is cheaper than a babysitter. i tend to go at low traffic times if there's something there i wanna see and missed at the first run theater.

i'll never forget when i went there to see children of men and there was a baby bawling for a good half hour in the middle of the movie. the irony wasn't lost on me.

We have a dollar cinema in town, the selection is usually very poor and it's really messy and gross. I don't know, not my thing. I usually go to the movies on discount days, Tuesdays it costs $5 at one of the nicest places in town, and my favourite theatre is $6 before noon on Fri/Sat/Sun. The latter especially, they'll play things that don't have a hope in hell of getting to the dollar place. Then again, I've forgone eating meals so I can go to the movies.

The discount theater that is close to me is a Asian gang hangout. So, no.ß
