Going on vacation for 2 weeks starting October 1, and I'm looking for some recommendations. Songs, or albums.

Abstract hip hop; trip hop
Big band era
Girl groups (50's - 70's)

Any form of: Acid music, Ambient/electronica

Feedback will most definitely be given.

Well, if you need big band you obviously have to have Glenn Miller but you probably knew that already. I recommend the two disk Essential Glen Miller.

Electronica - Dubnobasswithmyheadman by Underworld. You can't go wrong with a track on this record, but my favorites are the one-two punch of "Dirty Epic" and "Cowgirl". Primarily techno, but they expand so much upon that.

Also, Moon Safari by Air. It recently had a tenth-anniversary re-release. "Sexy Boy" gets most of the attention, by my favorite tracks are "All I Need", and "You Make It Easy". Sweet, mellow electro-pop.

Well, if you need big band you obviously have to have Duke Ellington but you probably knew that already. I recommend any sorta best-of type compilation. But then again, you can't really go wrong with The Duke.

Best of this genre I've heard in years, probably since the early 1990s. Absolutely amazing.

Menomena - Friend and FoeHave already listened to these. Decent albums, yeah. Specifically with the 'pop' and 'rock' genres these two fall in, I'm aiming for something a bit lesser known.

The rest: Noted. Keep 'em coming!

Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat: Fail.

As in you failed to finish it because you couldn't handle that much awesomeness in one album? Or you fail because you don't like it? There is no third option. :)

I had to stop after the third track. I'll give it another listen, for sure, but I'm no rush or anything.

I used to really like Blueberry Boat, but I returned to it recently and couldn't get through it.
