Finally an alternative to the iPhone.

This thing is gonna rock houses.

I can't wait until Oct 22nd.

What do you guys think of it??

I'm planning on switching from Verizon to T-Mobile for this phone.

3G, a real keyboard with trackball, higher res camera, GPS, maps with compass mode, push gmail, a DRM-free Amazon store, Android Market with your choice of apps, MMS, copy/paste, voice dial, removable battery, etc.

I think it looks like ass. I like the Android better.

I just need my phone to make calls and text.

I think it's pretty cool - but I have no need or want for one.

Same here.

I think it looks like a palm pilot from the '90s.

Plus it is just stupid that it has no 3.5 mm audio headphone jack.

What are you talking about? Android is on this phone.

Oh.

Then I like the iPhone better.

I like the bigger screen too, but what i really like about the G1 is the tactical keyboard.

But that's not anything new. Pretty much every other phone company out there's idea of an iPhone Killer is to add a keyboard in addition to the touch screen. I never saw what the hell that's supposed to be an improvement of.

I didn't say it was new. I just don't like the Apple interface and AT&T and Verizon's stingyness of controlling the types of applications on their phones. With Android, the possibilities are endless.

This is of course on top of the fact that you can remove the battery, and buy extra memory cards, something that is impossible with the iPhone.

Have an iPhone for personal use and a BlackBerry for work. I'm tech phoned out.

I guess this thing looks ok though. If it can receive MMS texts and gives you the ability to cut and paste, then I can only hope it's successful to maybe force Apple's hand in giving me those abilities.

Sounds like a Mac: make hardware upgrades hard or impossible so customers have to buy a whole new thing every few years.

I, too, like that keyboard on the G1. I've never had luck with finger-sensitive touch screens. I prefer a stylus.

Maybe my wife will get one. She's the phone guru around here.

My wife gave me her old phone, and about 3 weeks ago I sent my first text message.

I've realized I need the internet with me at all times. As soon as I am eligible for an upgrade (end of Feb '09), I'm getting an iPhone, since I'm already in bed with AT&T.

I'm just shallow. I like my iPhone. It looks cool. The G1 looks like Nintendo's uncircumcised dick. I'm sticking with Apple. Sorry, 3rd party developers. I doubt I'd check out most of your apps, anyway.
