This week is the beginning of a new format. I'm separating movies from TV and other stuff, which should make it easier for the people who don't care as much for the TV releases (like me).

Let me know if you guys like it this way or prefer it all together.

Wow. That Blood Simple cover is just awful.

The long-out-of-print Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains is finally getting a release?
Get. Out.

Yum-Yum, did you hear about this?

Oh, and a De Sica film with Sellers, Caine, Morley, Gassman, and Arkin? How many ways can one say "Yes, please!"?

Also, interested in the Ophuls stuffs and Gance and the Berkeley and the Laughton/Meredith picture and Beetlejuice. Maybe on Snow Angels. Good week.

Love the cover on that Blu-Ray Mist.

I like the new format.

I'll be buying Speed Racer for my son for his birthday in October. It's awesome when I like the same films he does. Justifies the purchase.

Outside of that, I'll rent the Ophuls films, Snow Angels, The Man on the Eiffel Tower, Woman Times Seven, and I have Finding Amanda on my DVR. I'll get to that eventually.

Kevin Sorbo as a werewolf. Yup, I'm sooooo there. :pritch:

The Rape of Europa sounds like an interesting doc.

I never got a chance to see Young at Heart, so I'll look into that one at some point.

Woman Times Seven sounds interesting. This will give me a chance to see something De Sica did outside of Bicycle Thieves and Umberto D.

I've never seen an Ophuls film, so maybe I'll start with one of those Criterion releases. I think The Earrings of Madame De... is supposed to have an introduction by Paul Thomas Anderson.

I still need to see Blood Simple, so it's nice to see a new release.

Oh, and I'll definitely check out Snow Angels.

Assuming it'll release in Belgium at around the same time, I might opt for Speed Racer. It looks unbearably over the top, but retina-meltingly colorful and exciting on Blu-Ray or so I expect. And hope.

There's another reason also and that is that Speed Racer was never even released in Belgium near my area and most summer movies are.

Wow. That Blood Simple cover is just awful.

I've seen worse frankly.

I will be buying Speed Racer Blu-Ray.

Shit, I'm going to go broke this weekend.

BUY:
Speed Racer
Blood Simple DC
Chuck S1
Snow Angels

RENT:
None

WTF of the Week:
Unelectable 08: Glenn Beck is a fucking tool, and from the quotes on that DVD cover, him and whoever would release a DVD with him in is definitely lacking funny.

nobody else is buying unelectable 08?

Huh? I think it's quite a nice design for a non-Criterion release. Isn't that from the film when Frances McDormand is laying in bed and smoking a cig?

Yum-Yum, did you hear about this?
Yeah get out indeed. I might just blind buy this if I can't find somewhere to rent it. I've actually seen a documentary about this movie and how it's been way out-of-print forever but I've never seen the movie itself.

I'll also definately pick up Risky Business Sp. Ed. at some point.

I'm totally 80s!

I'd rather castrate myself.

Yum-Yum, did you hear about this?

Nope, but I have now. :)

Remember, I grew up Night Flightless.

Anyway, judging by the box art, Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains looks super-terrific. In fact, I can already see it resting comfortably in and around my modest DVD collection.

Oh, and apparently Elizabeth Daily has a cameo as a hotel maid. So, yeah, I'm definitely down.

I will rent Speed Racer and The Rape of Europa. I have J'Accuse on my DVR, one day I'll get to that.

I missed the Fabulous Stains when I first perused this. Definitely getting in on that.

I sadly found out that Never Cry Werewolf does not star Kevin Sorbo as a werewolf, but stars Kevin Sorbo as a TV-host/Werewolf Hunter. Even better. :pritch:

Al Pacino is almost 70, not 40, although the cover for 88 Minutes makes him appear that way...

I'm convinced I've seen the drawing on the Mist BluRay cover somewhere else. Some comic-book or something.

Lots of movies this week.

About time for Snow Angels, I've been meaning to see that for a long, long time.

Buying Speed Racer for sure! I've also been awaiting the release of Duckman for years, so I'll try to pick that up sooner or later (trying to be a bit more thrifty these days).

I'll rent Snow Angels. If I weren't being so thrifty, I'd totally buy the new An American in Paris disc; even though I don't like the film all that much, it has some pretty sweet visuals and sequences and could totally be suckered in by a gorgeous transfer.

Speed Racer looks so amazingly perfect on Blu-Ray that I think it melted my eyes a little. Pushing Daisies looks pretty great too.

Twas a good week for the Blu.

Whoa, I never realized that Shusuke Kaneko directed Death Note. I am SO there.
