I'm signed up for one of those local casting sites that lets you know if they need extras and stuff and got an e-mail this morning saying they were shooting this film in South Boston. I IMDBed it and here's the plot.

As homicide detective Thomas Craven investigates the death of his activist daughter, he uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence

Got Mel Gibson as the leading role and directed my Martin Campbell.

Interesting?

Robert De Niro quit the film after one day of shooting. The guy that willingly appeared in Hide and Seek, Godsend, and Showtime quit this film. Also, Martin Campbell makes boring movies.

Still, I'd answer the extra call. It's fun to be able to point and say "I'm Janitor #2 in this shitty movie".

Plus, how cool would it be to say to the ladies, "I made the cut of that film. De Niro? Fuhgedaboudit."

True. They were calling for extras with rusted and barely operating cars...

I'm waiting for the casting calls for extras as Zombies to be in Stephen King's Cell movie... thats was the whole reason i signed up for it

"Hey, let's rip off Taken, get Mel Gibson in it, since he hasn't done anything in a while and can do a good Neeson, and let it all hang out!"

I know I won't like it, but it's a good trailer and I'm relatively intrigued to see it.

Gibson returning to the action game intrigues me, but at the same time, it's just not the same. It's like stale cake. Choccolageddon.

I'd say it's a pretty clear cross between Taken and Mystic River.

Campbell is an efficient, capable director of action films (Mask of Zorro is among the most enjoyable action/adventure films of the 90s) and Winstone and Huston peak my interest. But I really dislike Mel Gibson.

I dislike him as a person and as a director and have found him less and less likable as an actor as he has gotten older.

This could be somewhat decent. If its anything like Taken, which was servicable, I'll probably watch it.

OK, that brief shot in the trailer of Gibson getting taser'd is the greatest thing I've ever seen. Funnier than anything in Zombieland, for sure.

And I don't see what was so hilarious about the taser shot. It lasted all of a third of a second.

Yeah, Martin Campbell has done some great action thrillers.

I'm not too interested in this either. I'd like to see the original TV production, though.

Definitely this year's Taken. What would probably be a really bad thriller, becomes good because of the headlining actor.

I'll see it on DVD.

I watched fifteen minutes of Edge of Darkness before storming out and demanding my money back. I was fully enjoying the film, but the theater sold tickets to a couple with a toddler and an infant. I kept hearing this goo goo gahing from up front (really weird considering I was one of six people in the theater), then I saw the mom get a bottle and start to feed the infant. The toddler was playing with noisy childrens toys.

I enjoyed the beginning of the film, but that's all I can comment on till I get to see the flick in a non-Romper Room theater.

Some bizarre and silly developments in this film. Generally alright, but it suffered from unbelievable twists (great timing on that hit and run!) and plot turns that later felt unnecessary.

Ray Winstone however was fantastic. So good you almost think he's coming from another movie.

Did get to see the complete show on second attempt. Not bad, but desperately needed some editing. A few worthless scenes could have easily been deleted, as they were indeed worthless, and the run time could have used a trim.

Still some good stuff in there. Ray Winstone ruled that movie though.

So, basically, this is the bizarro world version of Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?

Hello everyone from Tampa on my Droid! Saw this last night and walked out thinking I enjoyed it, but the more I think about it the more I dislike this movie. It starts out great, perfect setup for a kick ass revenge triller. Neat conspiracy, but crazy plot twists and predictable events leaves very little to the imagination. Hard to get excited over things we KNOW are gonna happen. The car scene, the reporter outcome, the mil... the final standoff(s)? Mels boston accent was soo bad. I was cringing the entire time. Almost as bad as leos. There were a few scenes I enjoyed, but not enough for me to rec this movie.

Looks like Ransom.

It's nowhere near as good as the Howard flick. Poor movie this, hilariously bad at times when they try to forge an emotional connection with the viewer. That ending! Good God. It's pretty gobsmacking to think that Campbell did Casino Royale and then seeing the action scenes in this one. All right all right, so this one is more grounded in reality I suppose, but I thought it was seriously deficient in urgency and intrigue when the shooting calmed down.

I'll take uhm, Taken. Leaner and meaner the Neeson flick was.

BuffaloWilder

So, I'll say this - Campbell seems like less of an undistinguishable workman here, but maybe that's because he's working with material that's entirely his own.
