Lady in the Water

Watched this last night. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting and as people made it out to be. Were they expecting more of a horror film? I enjoyed the story and liked the way Night shot the ending through the water.

I'd put it in this order;

Sixth Sense A
Signs A-
Unbreakable B
Lady in the Water B
the Village C

M. Night is one of my absolute favorites.

I don't know what I was expecting, but what I got was pretty damn bad. I felt like the entire metaphor for storytelling was ridiculously heavy-handed and, by the end, pointless. The humor worked for the most part, but the characters were so one-dimensional that you couldn't seriously care for any of them beyond the siren.

And Shyamalan not only is a terrible actor, the crucial roles he chooses for himself expose him as completely blind to his lack of talent.

Lady in the Water is certainly messy, but it's also bold and fun. It's kind of ridiculous, but in a totally entertaining, memorable way. I'd have a hard time recommending it to people, but despite its flaws I liked it enough.

It may not have grasping the script like he's the chosen one, but it does have Mark Wahlberg talking to a house plant.

I liked The Village, so I was ready to buck the negativity and like this one. But it was just about one of the dorkiest films I have ever seen. Not entirely without value - it has Bryce Dallas Howard after all - but it just asks the viewer to forgive far too much. However, I will say that I think that Shyamalan is just fine as an actor and I don't think it was out of line for him to cast himself here.

Lady in the Water was actually his only film not to break the 100 mil gross mark. The rest grossed shit loads, even the Happening took in 150.

Believe me, it is. It's worth watching because it's an unbelievably bad film, and pretentious as all hell.

Just gets worse and worse. I didn't even see The Happening in the theater. When I check it out on DVD, I may just be finished with him.
