The film doesn't offer much originality, but I still stand by prediction for Downey's Oscar nomination.

Bummer that I didn't see this BEFORE I had it in nearly every Oscar category.

It really looks exactly like that. Which means that it's going to be well-meaning treacle.

I was thinking this for Benjamin Button. Not released yet of course, but seems to me this move could very well be Paramount clearing the way for Fincher's film, which I'm confident on which they are hanging their Oscar hat.

I'm virtually at the point where I no longer even care about what gets released in the intervening months. I just would love to see The Dark Knight sweep the Oscars.

@Raiders: Admittedly, "Benjamin Button" does look like the only worthy contender for me at this point.

I was thinking it looked like Reign Over Me, with the races in reverse.

The Dark Knight winning Best Picture would hopefully, finally, put the nail in the coffin of the Oscars actually meaning anything anymore. Might as well just merge with the MTV Awards.

My feelings exactly. Ledger for Supporting Actor, sure. But doesn't deserve a single other nomination in any category. A sweep would be a beautiful joke.

I'd also like to chime in and say that the thought of The Dark Knight winning Best Picture makes Crash's win seem like a fucking godsend.

Wow, that's just ridiculous.

Regardless of one's opinion of either film, The Dark Knight had more to offer artistically (both visually and intellectually) than any bit of Crash.

Do I think it should win Best Picture? No. But c'mon.

I don't know, I've not seen a lot of films this year.

I give it a 10, sure, and it may be my favorite film from the year (so far), but I'm sure there are others more deserving of a Best Picture Oscar.

Eh. Not really. It's been an okay year for movies.

I'm REALLY anxious to see that one Let the Right One In.

But back to the movie at hand...

I'm not too interested in The Soloist. Looks like pretty typical Hollywood feel-good garbage.

And I've yet to see any of Joe Wright's other films. He seems to have a good grasp on visual storytelling, but this one just doesn't interest me at all.

Regardless of one's opinion of either film, claims that attempt an objective evaluation should probably be avoided altogether. The risk that the speaker is going to sound like they don't know what they're talking about is just too high.

I think this film doesn't look half bad, but that might actually be due to the actors more so than the story and the plot.

Also I honestly stopped caring about who wins Best Picture, and whether or not they deserve to after the Academy gave Chicago the award back in 2003. That's when I realized that its really meaningless who they give the award to, and that all that matters to me is what I think is the best movie in a given year. I found the whole uproar over Crash winning for 2005 to be highly amusing.

Geez, will the last film for 2008 please turn out the lights? 2009 is starting to look like a really big year.

Could this genuinely be a move to open things up more for The Dark Knight? I don't know if I really put much stock in that idea (besides: different studios), but I can't think of many other possible contenders now besides Benjamin Button and Revolutionary Road.

There are none besides those two. Milk? Nah. Eastwood, definitely no. The Reader? Haha.
