Aside from his first two films, I have no interest in seeing anything else from the man, as what I have seen ranges from really solid to painfully mediocre.

In The Line of Fire-8.0
Air Force One-7.5
Troy-5.0

Honestly "Air Force" is a guilty pleasure, and Troy's higher than it should be score is due to me feeling sorry for the actors who deserved to be in a better film, and also because that fight between Bana and Pitt was super cool.

Well it's by far his best and unlike anything else he's ever done but even then I wouldn't say it's a great film, just a good film... but perhaps the best submarine film.

Surely it's at least that. My feelings sway on Das Boot. I want to dock it for being boring but at the same time that boredom enhances the overall feeling of lethargy and longing submariners must feel. Also, it really contrasts with some of the later tension.

He's just a really competent and skilled director if you ask me surrounding himself with quality folks such as Michael Ballhaus to name just one, giving the likes of Outbreak and Air Force One a polish that is lacking from a lot of summer offerings for instance. In the Line of Fire is easily my favorite Petersen. A fantastic thriller!
