Hopefully that link works, it's on MySpace for some reason. Anyway, it looks okay. Not too excited about it to be honest.

Yeah, looks alright. Interesting writing team (first film for all three), and Peter Sollett, whose Raising Victor Vargas I really enjoyed, at least makes me curious.

Didn't realize Sollett was involved. That does increase my anticipation. Victor Vargas was great.

Trailer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/nickandnorahsinfiniteplaylist) .

Slightly obnoxious title aside, I'm very interested in this primarily due to Sollett's involvement (Raising Victor Vargas was rather wonderful). The trailer makes it look like the film could go either way, but I'm kind of looking forward to it.

You watched the trailer, yet you're still confused as to why it's on MySpace?

I suppose the glory days of Bishop Allen are over, as well. Too bad--from Bujalski to this?

Enjoyable flick. Although it should've been with young students in college instead of high school students as I don't see any teens like that at all.

Michael Cera, Kat Dennings, and the poor girl that plays Caroline made it work for me. Most actors probably couldn't sell that story, but they consistently made me smile and laugh the entire way through. I was surprised at the grotesque factor of it all when dealing with the swapping gum. Ick.

Also, I don't think there's a band out in this world that people would search all over the city and see their show at 5:30 AM. That isn't the point of the movie at all, but the statement stands.

Yup, pretty much agree with everything you said. The movie is a lot of fun.

But four stars for Blindness? I've yet to see it but that is probably the most positive rating I've come across. Are you going to post your thoughts on it anywhere? It's just that it's still a film I want to see as I was a huge fan of Meirelles last two films, but the response has otherwise been underwhelming.

I think this looks absolutely insufferable. I'm shocked it was produced, actually, since it's the commercialization of a subculture many deem unworthy of documentation--and the ultimate way for the mainstream to acknowledge a cultural trend within a zeitgeist is to completely homogenize it, then package and brand it.

Also, as a friend pointed out, this is a film about driving around Manhattan.

Yeah there's very little similarities between this and Juno, I'd say this one has more in common with Cloverfield. Takes place in one night, in New York City, people running all over the place, big scary monsters.

My. Bloody. Valentine.

I could have done without the soundtrack. I like some Indie Rock, but the stuff played in this movie was just so White and edgeless.

Kat Dennings is without question hot (those lips & eyes), but I didn't think her character was all that interesting (check out her interesting YouTube page (http://www.youtube.com/katdennings)). To be honest, I was actually rooting helplessly for Cera's character to get back with his former girlfriend, played by Alexis Dziena, who has an interesting scene in Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers. Despite the shameless shallowness of her character, I found her sympathetic somehow. I don't know if I can properly explain why. She definitely had the sexiest presence in the movie despite her petite build. And whenever she showed regret at having lost Cera, I actually felt for her. I don't know, maybe it's the fact that she's confident enough to pursue who she wants and I'm not. ???

Ari Graynor, who played Caroline, was so brave for playing this part. Her character was drunk throughout the movie and was required to do somethings that she'll never want to remember and will be glad to have been the only witness. Ari played her so well that I didn't feel all that embarrassed for her.

Glad someone else liked Caroline a lot. The more I think about the movie, the more I think of her as the highlight of it all.

As for Alexis Dziena, I disagree there. Her shallowness was too obvious. Such a boring character in my opinion, and I don't see how she'd be attracted to Nick when they first met anyway. It was kind of disturbing seeing her dance because she's so small. I figured she was 15-16. Turns out she's 22 or so. Weird.

She's 24, born in 1984; a year after I was born. If you found that scene disturbing then I suggest you avoid Bill Murray's trip to Sharon Stone's house in Broken Flowers. George Bush!

I can't see her going out with Nick either but... I found her eventual pursuit of him surprisingly compelling.

I thought this was quite lovely.

I liked it a lot too. It was the first rave review I've written in a while.

The only thing that seemed odd is the teenagers during the opening scenes seemed to morph into 20-somethings when they hit the city. I thought maybe I was just out of touch with today's teens, but my 16-year-old daughter made the same comment.

I'm not saying this is necessarily a problem with the film. It was most likely intentional. I'm just wondering why.

I also noticed while writing my review that it's from the same director as Raising Victor Vargas, another film I liked a lot. Gotta keep an eye on this guy I guess.

Yep, I said that they were more like high-school grads then seniors. I almost wonder if that's how they were in the book, and the movie just twisted it for the sake of easier relationship building.

I think there's a big difference between vulgarity through the use of blatant profanity and actual provocative and shocking vulgar material. Superbad, and all the vulgar parts listed above fall into the former. Superbad is vulgar in a 12-year-old-trying-to-be-edgy kind of way.

Except that menstrual blood jokes as reactions to blood on a guy's jeans after dancing with someone is physical and has nothing to do with profanity, so you're merely contradicting yourself. Furthermore, the definition of vulgar says:

"making explicit and offensive reference to sex or bodily functions; coarse and rude"
...so it could be that you just don't have a good understanding of what the word really means, which is fine.

I agree. The former is crass and the latter is provocative. Vulgarity fits in better with the former.

Superbad is vulgar in a 12-year-old-trying-to-be-edgy kind of way.

And Juno is lame in a 12-year-old-trying-to-be-hip-and-edgy kind of way. And don't give me that "it's being self-aware" bullshit. Juno MacGuff may cover up her adolescent insecurities with snappy language, but Diablo Cody covers up her
poor writing skills with verbose, ostentatious dialogue.

Your definition doesn't supersede my point Clipper. Vulgarity has to actually be offensive. Superbad was empty and crass, while someone like George Carlin's standup is filled with actual offensive vulgarity.

Nick, you seem to have misunderstood some of my previous Juno comments, and I think I'm going to have to cross-post my upcoming retrospective on the movie here once I get it started on RT when I reach 20k.

"Offensive" is subjective, while vulgar is precisely what it is: it deals with scatological humor, which is often crude, like Carlin standup — an irrelevant reference meant to throw aside the actual topic at hand, whereat your "point" is completely confused.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. It's a sweet story, and it's certainly far and away better than the likes of Superbad, but it felt like the romance was on fast forward. I mean, this was taking place on the same day in which he was making a new mix for his ex, and leaving her pathetic voice mails, and wanting to skip a gig because of depression, right? And a few car rides one evening with a girl, half of which they spent arguing, made him get over her? Not buying that at all.

Not only that, but it was rife with hokey dialogue. Cringe inducing dialogue at certain key moments. Also, at times it was fairly boring, which is never good when your movie clocks in at 90 minutes.

Oh, and the blonde who played Caroline stole the show.
