Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Since I brought up Wiseman in the Gears of War thread, I thought i'd make a thread for this the third Underworld film.

Its a prequel, which is a good excuse not to have Beckinsale in it and its also going to be in the perspective of the Lycans instead of the vamps.

It's already in post production.

The first one is kind of a big guilty pleasure of mine. I sort of liked it when I saw it in theatres but any time I've caught it being on since the DVD came out I can't help but watching it through. But I have to say I wasn't really impressed by the sequel at all.

The fact that Beckinsale, Wiseman aren't involved in it and only the screenwriter of the first two is back (who isn't the Foot Fist Way/Pineapple Express Danny McBride, apparently) makes this feel like it's only slightly above DTV quality.

Only Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen returning can make this cool.

The first Underworld has the dubious distinction of being the only film I've seen with vampires, werewolves, action, and horror that bored me spitless.

It is unique in this regard, and only a very special kind of filmmaker could have accomplished such a task.

Last time I saw anything with either vampires or werewolves it was called Van Helsing. I really was impressed with what Wiseman did with Die Hard 4.0, but care nothing about this franchise. I just won't hold previous work against him. Why are vampires and werewolves such a big deal anyway?

Looks-wise, there isn't much of a difference. I thought it was funny that they did this as most thought Rhona Mitra was Kate Beckinsale in Doomsday.

Good for Beckinsale to avoid this though. She's got legit talent and needs to move on.

Before seeing the trailer I assumed that Mitra was in fact just replacing Beckinsale, but now it just looks like it's a different character (her mother maybe).

Doesn't look like anything special, but a bit better than I thought it would. Nice to see Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen back, but otherwise it's a rental.

I liked it as well. I liked how far back they went in terms of the prequel timeline. What I don't understand, and maybe someone here can help me, is how they were able to kill all these Lycans and vampires with swords and arrows. I can't remember right now from the first two movies, but did they follow the silver bullet and steak through the heart laws? Were these arrows supposed to be silver tipped?
