It's a bootleg from Comic-Con. Not the best quality, but it will do.

All I can say is.... hell yes?

I think I enjoyed the audience reaction more than anything. If only because the visual quality is so low. Although from what I'm seeing, it's like the demo doesn't exactly get what made the first lightcycle fight so great (the 90-degree angle turns, the almost expressionist look of the whole film).

I'm getting really tired of numbers-as-letters titles. What started this trend off? Seven is the earliest film I can think of which used it, but I seem to recall the title was printed as normal on the posters...I think it was only when they released it on DVD they changed it to Se7en.

With Tr2n I read "stupid gibberish."

Yeah, the placement of that "2" makes no sense at all.

D_Davis
07-28-2008, 11:07 PM
They should place the number "2" after the word "Tron".

For example:

Tron 2

I know it's unorthodox, but I think people will get used to it.

Wow. This is now very much on my radar. I love the way it combines the lovely simple designs of the original with more clicks and whistles (while retaining the spirit of the old effects... at least in the trailer *crosses fingers*).

Also, WTF digital young Jeff Bridges.

This movie cost HOW MUCH?

Tron 2 has a reported budget of anywhere from $300-$360 million, and that's without including the amount of money that Disney will undoubtedly spend in advertising.

Including prints of the film, and a marketing / advertising campaign for a movie of it's stature, you can easily add another $100-200 million to the movie's cost. If its budget holds up, and after other costs I've mentioned, Disney could end up spending an all inclusive total of $400-$560 million on Tron Legacy.

Description of new trailer:

- A good deal of exposition from Bruce Boxleitner
- An introduction to the main character - Son of Flynn
- A lot of footage from the Tron-world.
- Remember the arcade from the original film? Remember the atmosphere in the arcade, with Flynn being king of his little place. That is what the Tron-world is now like.
- Son of Flynn is thrown into the world, and there is a very cool shot of the Encom laser rearing it's head behind him.

Dukefrukem

read some of the reaction to the new trailer... this came out of nowhere it seems...

edit: Morris got the first quote first.

Hi Harry,

I was one of the "lucky few" to get a ticket to today's Tron Legacy IMAX 3D event in London - via that viral pitcell.com site. Although you'll probably get loads of these, I thought I'd jot down some thoughts for you.

Brief rundown of the trailer:
- A good deal of exposition from Bruce Boxleitner
- An introduction to the main character - Son of Flynn
- A lot of footage from the Tron-world.
- Remember the arcade from the original film? Remember the atmosphere in the arcade, with Flynn being king of his little place. That is what the Tron-world is now like.
- Son of Flynn is thrown into the world, and there is a very cool shot of the Encom laser rearing it's head behind him.

Sadly we only got to see it once which was disappointing, considering how long they made us wait.

But I think, from what I saw and remember, Tron Legacy is going to be great. At the very least, the visuals will be remarkable.

(If you use this, I'm Cosmosboy.)

All the best.

It was very frantic from this point out. First thing we see is a full on Recognizer. It was badass. Lots more moving parts. The cockpit seemed to rise up the legs like an elevator. Inside we see Flynn Jr. We see a shot of Young Flynn (presumably Clu). We see a badass old Flynn with a posse of other programs behind him. It looks to me like Flynn totally owns the place. We see lots of frisbees being thrown. We see lots of light bikes smashing each other up. We see a light quad-bike getting in on the action. We see the gal from Bones laying on a pretty badass couch.

All in all the trailer was very fast paced and kinetic once we entered the computer world. Immediate thoughts are Flynn feels like an antagonist in this film. The look of the computer world feels a little different than the concept trailer that was first debuted at Comic Con...that being largely very dark. This trailer seemed the complete opposite. It was like going to The Apple Store actually. Everything was gleaming white and very bright.

Now that I've seen it in High-def, that is some cool shit. Seeing those dusty arcade machines lined up really makes me think this movie is going to be powerful in a "I-really-miss-the-good-old-arcades-of yore" kinda way.

Yes, this looks like unique, visually arresting enterainment.

:)

Yeah - that was the best part of the trailer. Totally awesome.

The other night I went to this pizza parlor that had original working Ms. Pac-Man, Missile Command, Dig-Dug, and Mr. Do's Castle machines. It was awesome. Some of the best pizza I've ever had, too.

Yeah there have been so many false leaks that I am skeptical of anything that isn't coming straight from Comic-Con. I'm trying to temper my expectations for their score. As long as it still has an electronica feel, I'll be happy, but if those snippets are for real I'm not too big a fan of the orchestral parts. The synthesized excerpts sounds so much better, more appropriate, and less generic, so whatever the real thing is I hope they keep that predominant.

If nothing else it'll be an awesome main theme, which they played at last year's Comic-Con when they revealed the new light cycle.

If it were just confined to the game, that would be fine, I could put it into my head as an "avatar" that isn't quite as detailed as it should be. But it's just so weird to see the CG Bridges tucking the young Garrett Hedlund into bed.

It's the cheeks, the jaw, the eyebrows, the generall puffiness of his face, and the unpexpressive eyes tucked so deeply into all of it. And once it's all in motion, the movements just don't seem to move or react fast enough to come across as an actual human personality (or even a well-done, falsely animated one, for that matter).

Hopefully it's still being rendered and refined and the footage looking the way it does in the trailers is a result of it being released months before the locking of the picture.

I recently watched Tron this past weekend.... and I can confirm yes, CGI Jeff Bridges is very creepy. But I like it.

Huzzah! I haven't watched Tron in ages and I've been seriously jonesing for it. Perhaps a viewing this evening might be in order.

I think a ST:TOS-like refresh of the special effects would help it a lot. Not replacing them - just cleaning it up, especially the shoddy rotoscoping.

The new preview might just be the best one since the original teaser.

Really looking forward to this. Outside of the scenes I saw as a kid, I have no recollection of the original, and think I'll keep it that way.

You saw the 20 minute preview already?

I thought it was later on?

No. Just a smaller preview with focus on Jeff Bridges and the Daft Punk score.

Awesome. I hope the art direction is as impeccable as the promotional material suggests; it seems Oscar-worthy for that particular category. I think I should really see the original Tron as it looks like something I'd enjoy and at the same time, the sort of film that could potentially be remade every thirty years or so (unlike Suspiria, for example).

What is really distracting is the black & white faces and the off/on color scheme. It changes so much as the movie rolls on. And the ending scene completely takes away from the scope of the tron universe. Feels very empty compared to what it looked like towards the beginning.

And it has nothing to do with the sfx.

I could have done without the thing left with whatever that is. Just seems to be there for the sake of filling the space on the left, as important as it may be in the film. Also, the way Wilde's hair is blown onto her face is awkward, especially with her expression.

Otherwise, though, I really like it. Very nice homage to the original image while still looking really exciting and modern.

With the news of Marvel's film licenses officially being taken over by Disney after Thor and Captain America (that is, aside from the ones still owned by other companies like Spider-Man and X-Men), I thought this was pretty cool.

Variant covers of Marvel comics, made to look like the characters exist in the Tron: Legacy universe. (http://www.comicsalliance.com/2010/10/18/marvel-tron-legacy-variant-cover-mashups/)

Doesn't look convincing at all. I hope they improve on him before it comes out. Even the blue aliens in Avatar looked more real.

I don't think they can. If they're not in the uncanny valley by now, they're really damned close to it.

That may work, though, for a movie about maleficent computers.

That's what I was thinking. Though, there are a couple of real world scenes/flashbacks, as seen in the trailers, but I guess they'll just show his face as little as they can.

I was perfectly fine with that excuse, but seeing young Bridges in the real world when Sam's a kid looks...worse than it does in the computer.

We live in the time where technology can successfully emulate MOST things in a movie. Limitations still exist though, and more than ever, it's frustrating when filmmakers stumble by doing something they just cannot do and didn't NEED to do to. Unless if young-Bridges is used effectively enough to seem crucial to Kosinski's vision of the film, then it really should not have been done.

We'll see. No use on debating what none of us know. Context is key.

Me, I saw Tron in the theaters when it came out. I was 10 - the perfect age to see that movie. I taped it when it was on TV a year later, and watched that tape over and over and over and over... needless to say the movie is one of the big movies of my childhood and I'll be seeing Tron Legacy as soon as I am able.
