Trailer (http://youtube.com/watch?v=8wT88mu7LGg)

It's not directed by him, but it will be enough to last us until Inglorious Bastards.

I'm glad more of these schlocky grindhouse movies are getting made.

I don't really understand the appeal of neo-grindhouse.

Looks pretty middling but not necessarily awful, don't like the trailer music.

Looks like it could be a fun time, but the potential is definitely there for redundant dialogue and pop culture posturing.

Hopefully it won't be like that, but you never know...

Yeah, I don't think it looks interesting at all. I like my movies nice and clean.

Movies that are trash, and acknowledge that they are trash, are still trash.

I read today that he intends to remake Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

with porn star Tera Patrick as the star.

Yeah, throw that in with his other movie ideas that'll never happen.

With that...

Five is too limiting. Five would be too limiting for just his Kill Bill universe ideas.

I had a difficult time paying attention to this trailer.

I can see this movie working. First time I've seen nudity in a youtube video at least.

I got the first two:

1. Quentin Tarantino's Slavery-era horror flick
2. Quentin Tarantino's softcore, particularly Swedish-flavored sex farce

Haha I'd love for him to make one of those.

Another pass on this movie, though.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that Civil War horror/western film. Before Kill Bill, he had talked about a Spaghetti Western with Samuel L. Jackson as the lead, and I think this was it. Perhaps after Inglorious Bastards? Probably not.

Let's see what else there's been:
Vega Brothers Prequel
Friday the 13th remake
Kill Bill III (the dumbest one yet)

Kill Bill III (the dumbest one yet)The Civil War horror/western and the Spaghetti western with Jackson would both be awesome, but I doubt he'll ever make them. The rest of his ideas though sound crappy, although he'd have nowhere to go but up with a Friday the 13th remake. The original is solid/decent at best.

Oh and Hell Ride looks like it could either be a great deal of fun or really, really terrible. Its casts rocks, that's for sure.

Something about a pulpy civil war effort where Sam Jackson refers to everyone around him as my nigger strikes me as a rather risky financial venture.

The Civil War horror with Sam Jackson thing was scrapped. It was his first idea for Grindhouse. He was going to make a teen slasher about sorority girls visiting a plantation haunted by the ghost of an old slave (Jackson), whose killing method is "fucking white women to death".

I have a very rough draft of a short story similar to this - I've been sitting on it for ages.

But it's trying to be really fucking stupid. So it must be brilliant! :|

Hey now, let's not assume fucking stupidity so brashly. He could have done something really interesting with the premise.

But yeah, it is/was/would've been probably just really stupid. I can't imagine him in any alternate universe going for that as his portion of Grindhouse.

I wish Tarantino would go back to making movies not based on old movies he loves.

Reservoir Dogs? Pulp Fiction? I know they've got influences and everything, but at least they're not blatant copies of other styles, like all of his other films have been.

Wait a second there! I don't.

Hasn't Tarantino gotten what one could call his own "style" (which is a tough concept to pinpoint) now? If you (Antoine) are saying that's what he exhibited in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction (both of which I haven't seen in a long time) but then subsequently dropped to crib from other styles, what constitutes the "cribbing" and what the "not based on old movies/his own style" portions of Jackie Brown and Death Proof? Those two are, yes, entrenched in very particular genres with very particular story tropes, but stylistic "blatant copies"? That last sentence - it applies to his first two films, too - what sets 'Jackie' and 'Death' apart as "blatant stylistic copies"? Does "his own style" have to be relegated to hip/non-chronological/chaotic/ultraviolent/pseudo-philosophical 90s-feel crime dramas now just because he happened to pioneer it (maybe?)? I certainly have never seen anything like that car crash in Death Proof in any 70s grindhouse film I've seen.

I can probably come to terms with what you're saying if you're saying his filmmaking is just too contrived upon what he's soaked up as a film enthusiast, but it's tricky making 'Reservoir' and 'Pulp' Tarantino's self-made blank slate "prime" while then looking down upon 'Jackie' and 'Death Proof.'

Unless you're zeroing in on all the time he took out to make the Kill Bill saga, the only really egregious offenders of the criticism. Was Tarantino as consistently prodded at for being a "pastiche"/"film geek" filmmaker before the KILL BILL films?

Have any of you guys seen Afro Samurai?

It's amazing. Samuel Jackson voices the two main characters. Well... sort of.

Looks interesting, but then I found out it's directed by the same guy who did Mad Dog Time about 12 years ago. Anticipation dissipated.
