Looks very Tony Scottish, but you know I'll see this. Shia is good people.

Im with Duke. The teaser, for some reason, really grabbed me. I'm looking forward to where this goes.

And I'd like to see Shia really take this one by the horns and turn into a full fledged star.

Logic of a video game, ridiculous, edit-heavy, another HAL villain, and filled with loopholes.

Nonetheless, a fun time to pass two hours.

This has one of the silliest third acts I've ever seen.

At least Get Smart treated the same approach as parody, and not the uber-serious National Treasure-esque abortion that this film was.

I understand why Monaghan was there, but you'd think there would be, you know, a better candidate than a single mom with little to no skills.

I was planning on seeing this today, but overslept and then did not feel like trying to catch a later showing. I wasn't that crazy about catching it and the real lackluster reviews aren't helping.

This became insanely terrible once the main villain is revealed.
Someone has to get LaBeouf and Caruso off the Y: The Last Man project.

Haven't seen it, but I was told what the twist was and it sounded like the most retarded movie of all time.

Twins? Tuba bomb? Skynet?

I almost want to say that the third act is supposed to be some sort of parody or inside joke, but I actually think that it was intended to be serious.

Amusingly, the movie I saw before this was Burn After Reading. Sort of puts things into perspective.

My favorite part of the trailer is when Rosario Dawson says, with an inflection of enlightened epiphany, "what if it's a decoy--to distract us from something 50 times bigger."

But hey, someone had to write this.

It was either between that or Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

This is probably what a lot of people said about Speed Racer, but hey, look what happened! It turned to be far more palatable than the critics made it out to be. I guess sometimes one likes to find out for himself whether a movie is really bad or entertaining enough.

Am I hopeful? No, but it might yet deliver enough fun.

And lulz. Let's not discount the lulz factor.:)

Still, I do admit that Speed Racer had a bigger, more immediate hook which were the unique visuals.

Was only 3 bucks.
I also saw Bangkok Dangerous that night. It wasn't funny, just painful.

Speed Racer had an enticing look, monkeys, and ninjas. I can say why people would pay to see it. Also, the Wachowskis, for better or worse, are worth exploring.

Eagle Eye doesn't even look terrible. Worse; it looks dreadfully bland. Another wooden conspiracy thriller with a preposterous plot directed by a hired gun. It appears to be the theme of the Fall movie season.

And it was exactly all those things and more. Probably the same reason why I'll see Body of Lies next weekend, though I pray to God that film will better than this given the actors and hit-and-miss director involved.

Plus, the lul... er... I mean... it was funny.

Despite all the bad things about Eagle Eye, there is one thing done right, and that's the work of Dariusz Wolski. The first half of the film shows some great urban architecture whether it be towering skyscrapers or the intimidating power lines, it was very well done.

Well, I was fairly entertained throughout the entire movie. I guess I can apply what Ebert said about The Bourne Ultimatum:

What actually happens to Jason Bourne is essentially immaterial. What matters is that something must happen, so he can run away from it or toward it.

In that sense, I found Eagle Eye absolutely breathless sporting a bunch of reasonably thrilling action scenes and a convincing sense of pandemonium.

Still, it's no Bourne Ultimatum.

I'd scratch out ninjas and monkeys and especially the former. Those are aspects that are blown way out of proportion on discussion boards. Not saying the monkey wasn't funny, but the general population isn't likely to be swayed by that.

Totally wrong.

They didn't push the ninjas and monkeys enough in the ads. Clearly that's why the film failed at the box office.

It's actually a reasonably entertaining movie with a very arresting visual style and some above average performances from Thornton and LaBeouf. The directing is passable, and some of the set designs are quite impressive.

The script is preposterously stupid, however. It almost seems self-satirical in its intentions at times, which makes me wonder if the director (or maybe the audience) just didn't pick up on the underlying irony.

The didactic politicking is definitely grating, but if you take the movie for what it is - a stupid summer action movie dolled up in "important issues" - it's not a complete waste of seven bucks and two hours.

I haven't seen this yet, but Shia LaBeouf is probably the only male actor that I'll watch a movie like this for. He's like a young Will Smith without the cockiness. A star is born indeed.

It has some high-energy action and a haze of mystery that is convincing enough to propel the plot forward, but it really becomes more ridiculous once it is revealed who the voice on the phone is. I wasn't bored.
